A Muslim told me,
“Jesus’ crucifixion never happened, and you cannot find any historical evidence outside Christianity to prove it.”

So I said,
“Okay, I don’t believe Muhammad existed. There is no historical evidence outside Islam that proves his existence.”

He immediately said,
“Hold on! Let me show you non-Islamic sources that prove Muhammad existed. Christian and Byzantine writers mentioned a prophet among the Arabs.”

I asked him,
“Do you actually believe those sources?”

He said,
“💯 Absolutely.”

I said,
“Okay, then let’s apply the same standard to Jesus. There are also historical sources outside Christianity that mention Jesus’ crucifixion.

Tacitus, a Roman historian who was certainly not a Christian, wrote that Jesus was executed under Pontius Pilate.

Josephus, a Jewish historian who was not a Christian either, also wrote about Jesus and his followers and referred to his execution.

So, do you believe these sources?”

He said,
“Errrmm… I don’t believe! Christians made those sources up, the Quran says Jesus wasn’t crucified, so I believe the Quran.”

And that’s where the double standard becomes obvious.

I said,
“By that same logic, I don’t believe Muhammad existed and Muslims made up the non-Islamic sources about Muhammad to convince people he existed.”

He said:
“I have something to stand on. The Quran is my proof that Jesus was not crucified.”

I said,
““I also have something to stand on, the Bible and the four Gospels, which were written long before the Quran by eyewitnesses and those who knew the eyewitnesses. The Bible clearly records that Jesus was crucified and rose again.”

Then came the response: “See, allah made it appear that way. The Bible has been corrupted over time.”

So I said:
“I don’t accept the Quran as a source that overrides the earlier testimony about Jesus, especially when Muhammad did not meet Jesus or His apostles. The Bible is sufficient evidence for my faith that Jesus was crucified and resurrected.

You cannot ask me to accept non-Christian historical sources when they support Muhammad’s existence, while rejecting non-Christian historical sources when they support Jesus’ crucifixion simply because the Quran says otherwise.

You’re applying one standard to Muhammad and another standard to Jesus.

That’s a double standard.”

Before I converted to Christianity from Islam, this was the argument that put me on the mat. It’s almost stupid how simple it is.

The minimal facts. The historical bedrock that virtually ALL scholars grant, Christian, agnostic, skeptic, doesn’t matter:

Jesus died by crucifixion. His followers had experiences they were CONVINCED were the risen Jesus. Enemies like Paul and skeptics like James flipped overnight and died for it. The tomb story launched in the one city where a body could end it.
Now run the fork, bro.

If Jesus didn’t rise… Christianity DIES. Paul says it himself: “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile.” 1 Corinthians 15:17. The Bible bets everything on one checkable event.

But if He DID rise…

Islam CAN’T be true. Because Islam’s entire position, Surah 4:157, is that he wasn’t even crucified. One unwitnessed sentence, six hundred years late, against the most attested event in ancient history.

I sat with that fork for MONTHS.

I tried so hard to stay Muslim. I WANTED Islam to win.
But the evidence wasn’t on my side. And deep down, past the pride… I knew it.

I knew Christ was King.

Nigeria Is A Secular State According To Our Constitution, And The Practice Of Religion Falls Squarely Within The Ambit Of One's Fundamental Human Rights.

We Are For Peace As Christians But Let No One Take Our Love And Promotion Of Peace As A License To Provoke Us To Anger Because We Would Fight Back When Pushed Against The Wall Under Any Guise Especially That Of Islamic Intolerance.
