We are deeply saddened by the passing of James Carter Cathcart, the voice behind Professor Oak, Gary Oak, James and Meowth of Team Rocket, and other iconic characters for the Pokémon animated series over many years.
In addition to his voice work, James provided over 700 episodes of scripts for the animated series, shaping the stories that defined generations of fans. From the very first episode to the final journeys, James brought warmth, humor, and unforgettable charm to the world of Pokémon. His talent gave life to some of our most beloved characters, and his legacy will continue to reach the hearts of Trainers everywhere.
James’s voice will always be part of our adventure. Our thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends.
American Fiction and Indiana Jones getting best score nominations over Joe Hisaishi’s immortal work on The Boy and the Heron… as rude as the Oscars have ever been
@dem0lition_man Supposedly the book is mostly from Candles’ perspective which explains the male gaze I suppose. Ultimately I enjoy the vibrancy and over the top acting from everyone involved but feel let down by the central tale. Also the dead babies scene is so so stupid.
@dem0lition_man I totally agree and don’t understand everyone’s forgiveness of this just because of the exaggerated style. It’s the equivalent of waving a toy in front of a baby to keep it distracted. It’s also incredibly disappointing of Yorgos who has proven he can write better characters.
@dem0lition_man I watched it because my 50ish year old family friends told me it was the greatest film they’ve seen in years which I think was the cherry on the cake. There are countless movies better than it but few more oblivious of its failings. I totally get why anyone would dislike it.
@dem0lition_man Saltburn’s reprehensibility is entirely why it’s so enjoyable tho, it’s so proud of how profound and important it thinks it is that it loops back around and becomes so damn enjoyable
I still wonder if a lot of Chainsaw Man fans even finished Part 1 of the manga, and if not I hope they’re pleasantly surprised by the culmination of this trapping game. For those who have and still see Makima as simply Doujinshi material, I think it’s a real damn shame.
Sexualisation in anime is an ever present theme, and I’d be lying if my mass consumption of this media hasn’t blinded me a little to it. But that’s the exact genius of Chainsaw Man, it uses that trope to catch viewers into a false sense of security.
