The Black Bands of Giovanni de' Medici harass the Imperial provision carts during Italian Wars in 1526, depicted in the movie The Profession of Arms (2001).

A quite realistic depiction of how such raids looked. Love this northern Italian fog aesthetic.

There is also an interesting account of a brawl breaking out between German Landsknechts and English longbowmen for unknown reasons on one of such campaigns.

In battles like these, no mercy was shown.

This castle in Trentino region in Italy is very interesting for medieval military history lovers, for it contains frescoes of 14th century warfare.

Notice two interesting things on these frescoes.

1) Ghibelline-Guelph conflict. On the third image you can see knights with Imperial eagle, representing the Ghibelline side, fighting Guelph forces.

2) Hungarian and Cuman mercenaries. On the first image you can notice mercenaries with recurve bows and pointed hats, associated with Cumans, fighting a Western-style infantry. Many foreign mercenaries fought in Italian conflicts in 14th century, and this fresco reflects this!

It's also interesting to note the importance of wrestling as part of military training, as you can see on the fourth image.

Overall an extremely interesting contemporary depiction of medieval warfare in Italy.
