COACHES: Florida made the Leafs have to earn every inch of ice last night, it was a masterpiece on defensive play. Their gaps were SO GOOD, it seemed like every pass Toronto got there was someone right in their face.
Here's a minute and a half of Florida's gaps, tight and above, creating turnovers, causing the Leafs fits, and culminating in Florida's third goal where Jones literally steps in front of Nylander to get the puck and transition.
Being this hard to play against wins, especially at this time of year. Phenomenal job and great clips to show your teams!!
COACHES: One of the most underrated facets of winning hockey?
Line Changes.
You're hearing so many higher level coaches today talk about "winning the line change battle" when discussing winning hockey. A team that changes at the appropriate times, is attentive on the bench, and values short shifts puts themselves at a major advantage on the ice.
EDM has a player change here at a tough time and the guy he was above ends up getting an easy lane to the net for the breakaway goal.
Little, often overlooked detail of the game that can play a big time role in wins/losses.
COACHES: Here's a great clip to show your players when teaching the value and details of F1.
Dylan Cousins does a great job angling with stick pressure, closing, reloading, and causing the turnover that eventually leads to his goal.
This effort and detail is unreal. Great job!
Problem with defenders not biting?
a defender doesn't bite because they aren't worried about what you're showing.
There are two directions you can show, left or right.
You can show each direction in many ways but the key ingredient for success is the length of the hold
@HockeyThinkTank I find it unbelievable that travel hockey programs demand kids miss Fri and Monday school days to play wraparound weekend tournaments 5X/yr or risk being thrown off the team. Its gotta stop!
COACHES: How tough is your team in front of the net?
With a majority of the goals, at every level, being scored right around the net - having a toughness both offensively and defensively around the crease will lead to success.
Here are two great clips to show your teams. The offensive team flat out wanted it more and were rewarded with goals.
One of my favorite drills in practice is taking those pad dividers, putting them around the net enclosing the area from the dots down and across, and playing 2on2. The offensive 2 are trying to score, the defensive 2 are trying to clear it out east-west and the coach keeps throwing pucks in after goals or clears.
You'll learn a lot about your players on who wants it more and you'll develop a team toughness mentality around the net which is so important to winning in today's game.
Let's go!!!!
