On Thursday I saw the Canadian production of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish in Toronto
In my latest substack, I describe how a play based on monologues from the 1800s still resonates today

Note to @promeusinc and @OntariosDoctors
The previous post was respectful (it even used the word respect)
There is no combative or confrontational tone either implied or delivered
I am simply responding to an opinion that I disagree with by stating facts
With all due respect Dr. Ge
I disagree with your OPINION
FACTS:
While the war Hamas started led to suffering for people in Gaza, there is no evidence of genocide
There is no evidence of Apartheid in Israel
Canadians Jews have the right to support their indigenous homeland
Why is there a “Walk with Israel” being held in Toronto? Israel is committing genocide and apartheid against Palestinians. The international court of justice has ruled that Canada as a third party state has obligations to not be complicit in aiding Israel in these crimes.
MISSING: (LOCATED)

It takes a special kind of person to rip down posters about a missing child
So I respectfully wonder:
Is she an antisemite or just a heartless monster devoid of humanity?
Note to @promeusinc - I used the word “respectfully” - Nothing “confrontational” or “combative “
Interesting
I published a blog on #antisemitism (link below), and here are two private replies I received to the story I posted on Instagram
My post sid nothing of Zionism and yet…
Tell me again that antisemitism and antizionism are not related

There has been a lot of discussion around the incident at @OntariosDoctors’ AGM in which a member said he was asked to leave
This wasn’t about religious freedom or racism
It was about following rules
My most recent piece on Substack:

Happy #Shavuot to all those celebrating
I took the day off today to make my late grandmother’s blintzes for my whole family for dinner tonight
Because there are usually people around eating them while they are being made, I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many blintzes at once!
With respect Dr. Gandhi,
A crucifix and Star of David are religious, not political ones
The symbol to which you refer is political. I would expect the same result for any political symbol brought to an OMA meeting
OMA meetings are for OMA business, not personal politics
2 weeks ago, @OntariosDoctors banned @yipengGe from attending the AGM. I wrote to @kmoranONT and @SharonBalMD about it. NO acknowledgement, so making the letter public. I would write similar letter if Star of David, Crucifix, #BlackLivesMatter, etc pins banned.
Dear Canadian doctors,
We have an antisemitism problem.
When physicians, who also have university faculty positions, refer to their Jewish colleagues as 'zios' on doctor chat groups, it's time to have a serious discussion about civility, professionalism, and hate speech.
This bigotry has become normalized in online physician chat groups and the lack of response by regulatory bodies has only emboldened this type of behavior.
It has not yet spilled into the clinical world, but it creates a poisoned environment where, eventually, there is a risk that it will.
There need to be clear guidelines and guardrails to walk back some of this atrocious behavior and bring civility back to the profession.
While I agree that Minister Ben-Gvir’s behaviour is reprehensible, I take issue with the fact that Mr. Lewis uses this to repeat the persistent lie that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza
Including such libellous claims invalidate anything worthwhile that he may have to say
It’s a relief to hear the Prime Minister express some moral outrage over Ben-Gvir’s brutish behaviour, outrage which has been missing during Israel’s attack on Iran, bombardment of Lebanon and ongoing genocide in Gaza.
But strong words must be followed by strong action. Sanctioning individual ministers is not enough when this cruelty is mirrored in Israeli state policy. Close the loophole on arms sales, cancel the free trade agreement and use every tool in Canada’s diplomatic arsenal to end Israel’s impunity.
I was sad to hear of the passing of my childhood paediatrician, Dr. Morris Cherniak
He was truly a mentch in all respects
When I was applying to medical schools I remember meeting him and he was very supportive and reassuring
His memory will be a blessing
Mr. Lewis,
Your continued propagation of the “genocide” blood libel against Israel, and your party’s transformation into a single issue party aimed at promoting hate against Israel and against Canadian Jews are two reasons why Canadian voters will continue to reject your party
The Israeli military has detained hundreds of activists who sailed to Gaza to break Israel’s blockade.
In the face of unending genocide and impunity, they continue to challenge Israel, to keep the spotlight on ongoing genocide.
At least 11 Canadians are among those taken.
We're calling on the federal government to drop its usual kid gloves treatment of Israel and exert real diplomatic pressure to secure their immediate release.

On April 26, the owner of the Aleph Bet Judaica store woke up to find a rock had smashed the window of his store.
Read how Holocaust survivors turned an instrument of hate into a symbol of defiance and resilience.

First it was gel balls and the response was “it’s a kid’s toy”
Then a pellet gun: “well, it’s only pellets”
Next it will be an assault rifle and the response will be:
“What? how?”
Our leaders need to take this seriously before someone is killed
