"In every country in which there has been a loss of freedom, where does it begin? It begins in news media, in public print, in books, and on the proscenium. That's where they attack you first right there. That's the bread basket." —Rod Serling
Gerrit Graham was a rock'n'roll soul trapped in the body of a brilliant comic actor. We were in a loosely-stitched bunch called the Pitchell Players, mid-70s, and he brung it, boy. He turned me on to some great music, too. RIP, Gerrit.
Obviously Beef is the big one but my first memories of Gerrit Graham are as Franklin Sherman in The Critic. Great voice actor too. Man of many talents. RIP.
“Maybe enlightenment is far away, but it's said that when you walk toward the light, with every step, things get brighter.”
— David Lynch, from Curtains Up (2018).
Kaido is supposed to be over rated, that's his actual function in the story. Kaido was the supposed de facto top 1 but only because everyone who we knew to be stronger than him is now dead.
Kaido resented this circumstance, and was obsessed with proving that he actually deserved it, but the opportunity to do so honourably was always robbed from him by interventions.
Because if this, despite being framed as the strongest, Kaido was actually shown to have a deeply rooted inferiority complex, because he was never actually able to prove that he was the strongest. It was always only ever a claim.
While this might be one of my least favorite installments of the franchise, this sequence genuinely scared me as a kid, they really nailed the horror from Jamie's perspective. That shot of Michael's silhouette outside the door is scary as shit.
