I am currently 28. I picked up "be kind" feminism from uni and my peers and had never really challenged it. My peaking began when my mum and I clashed over @GetTheLOutUK in 2019. I couldn't fathom the idea of my mum being a bigot - it just didn't make sense.
@NHSEnglandLDN How do I know if I've got ovaries? Is there anything I and my brother could look out for that might increase our chances of having them? Eg do they run in the family?
@HJoyceGender Noone ever saw him, but during her training my Navy friend's superiors asked all the female recruits if they minded sharing with a TIM. They agreed between them that it was fine as they felt sorry for him. You have to wonder about the unintentional pressure from superiors/peers..
Once upon a time my sister wanted to make jam, so bought cheapo jarred jam and disposed of the contents, then filled the jars with her own. Our granny was so upset with her for the waste 😂
@parkrunUK The thing is, because you’re no longer inclusive of women, I lost my motivation to do parkrun. It’s such a shame because I think it has so many benefits, but not while it devalues women’s runs by allowing men to qualify for the women’s leaderboard
@francesweetman Don’t you kinda wish that account would go back to doing what it says on the tin rather than being a rampant TRA? If you want to be a TRA do it on a dedicated account, I beg of you.
@frankie2001mia And there was some horror movie she did at 15 where she was in a scene with a load of fully nude men (playing teenage boys) in communal showers. She was clothed, but she did flash her boobs and it was kept in the final edit.
@frankie2001mia Kiera Knightly always played older, even when it *really* wasn’t appropriate. At 17 she played Lara in Dr Zhivago (aged 14-30ish). Her love interests (supposedly younger than her) were played by men in their late 20s. She also had a much older ‘lover’ in his fifties.
@ShayWoulahan I watched Euphoria with my flatmate, neither of us knowing anything about the cast or characters. His character is introduced from the back with long blonde hair, cycling in a tiny pink skirt. Both me and my flatmate clocked him immediately.
I bought the whole set on a ‘well the tv show is good’ whim and have devoured them. I’m now on book 8 and not sure what to do with myself when I finish. Truly brilliant books.
A couple of years @chrisdeerin’s recommendation of the Slow Horses books tipped me over into reading them. I am now passing that blessing on to you—the books are brilliant, and so is the TV series. https://t.co/k7wyV3sTVx
@theneonrequiem This reminds me of my Ghanaian British friend who said that an African American woman told her, with all sincerity, that she was white because she’d never heard of collard greens. Apparently race is based on (America centric) experience rather than the colour of your skin.
I was overwhelmed yesterday when I walked into the club to be presented by the local players with a winners trophy, cash, flowers, and a card. Although I didn't win, and for me, it's about fairness, this wonderful gesture made me feel like a true winner👏 #fairplayforwomen
It’s funny. Ten years ago I was in my uni house super excited for the doctor who 50th anniversary and getting annoyed with my house mate for talking through it. Today I forgot it was even on because I care so little.
@RoseStokes My mentions today have been an onslaught of wilful misinterpretation, but I don’t know why I expected better reading comprehension from a Twitter audience that thrives on outrage. Glad I was able to give a lot of people a serotonin hit at least.
@RoseStokes What happened to practical feminism? Yes men could stop raping women, but have you met men? There are practical ways of making yourself less vulnerable, such as not drinking excessively. That doesn’t mean you’re to blame if you get drunk and a man assaults you
@JackieFrancesca@RoseStokes And I agree. But that doesn’t mean telling men ‘don’t rape’ is going to stop them doing it any time soon. There are practical measures women can take that *reduce* the risk, but they are not to blame regardless of whether they take those measures. Men are to blame. Always.
