@RoyalMailHelp We have a reference number for a parcel but there is an error in postcode on the receipt. I've been told that it won't be delivered and the parcel (a Christmas present for my son from his uncle) will be disposed of as your system cannot update the postcode.
@BarbaraBleiman My 12 year old is an avid reader but this year his school are using Sparx reader. Weekly online books read on a laptop for homework, little choice of books and interrupted every few minutes for comprehension questions. It's joyless and automatic detention if not complete!
@ArrivaKent was there any particular issues with the 132 bus this morning. Several buses were shown on the app as running slightly late but then disappeared off the app with no sign of a bus. Group of school children waited in the rain and then late for school.
@housepanther77 Oh this sounds so familiar. My son is finally able to use a laptop at school for most of his writing, such a relief as it's reduced the dread of school massively.
@ItsEmilyKaty My son was out of the house 7.30 til 5 today for school. Then had 1.5 hours of homework. He's 12 and exhausted, it's not sustainable he needs time to be a kid.
@RogersHistory 4. Detention for lateness - I'd be really interested to know the % of schools that give automatic detention for lateness. My son's school do, even on first occasion when there are zero other concerns regarding behaviour. I think it's standard across that academy trust.
@briankhears@MrsSDalton75 Yes absolutely, I just wondered if a child is able to type fluently but would never regardless of intervention be able to handwrite fluently due to a physical reason. Would in that circumstance the cognitive load of typing for that one individual child be less than handwriting?
@briankhears@MrsSDalton75 Wouldn't it then stand to reason that for children who struggle to write fluently, cognitive load could be reduced by typing instead? e.g. a child who will never be able to write fluently for physical reasons but could type with ease would be better off typing.
@neuroteachers @harbroeuk This is the case in my son's school, two staff signatures on card in one day leads to 30 min detention after school e.g. for wrong equipment which could be having 15cm ruler instead of 30cm ruler. 1 hour detention automatically I'd failed to produce card when asked by staff.
@bennewmark Would be a very interesting comparison, especially when the chunk of sleep time starts to be replaced by phone time. I'm lucky my 12 yr old goes to a secondary school with no smart phones on site, and generally not interested. Not representative of most 12 yr olds though.
@bennewmark@teamsquarepeg @AlisonHoneybone @JonHaidt Interested by the 11% figure overall, works out at 30% of all waking hours over a year, or 50% of waking hours Mon-fri term time. 75% if you add in homework and school travel. All numbers technically correct, very different perspectives.
@JodieSmitten @HollytheOT I've heard this even over straightforward adjustments such as, they can't have a wobble cushion at school as they won't have this at work in the 'real world'. Which is utterly ridiculous!
@HGold_author The Last Bear is such a beautiful book. My son and I enjoyed some lovely evenings reading it together and we're about to start Finding Bear. Thank you for your wonderful stories.
@MartinSLewis How do they calculate the 30th percentile? To afford the lowest 30% of private rents in my local authority would need about a Β£450 increase a month from current rates.
@vincemaple@MedwayCouncil With the current rental rates, some families are paying huge percentages of income on rent leaving little for heating their home and food bills. This disproportionately impacts single parents and it is completely unsustainable.
@vincemaple Such an important link to consider @vincemaple I would be interested to hear more about @medwaycouncil approach to housing issues. The high cost of rents in Medway at present will be having a significant impact on physical and mental health.
