The U.S. energy blockage on Cuba is affecting all parts of daily life, including trash collection. Now trash left piled on the streets is causing sanitary issues for the island's people.
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller today responded to the first suspected case of New World screwworm (NWS) in Texas, criticizing the United States Department of Agriculture for what he called a slow, bureaucratic, and incomplete response that allowed the pest to advance unchecked through Mexico and reach American soil.

Win what? A golden pair of trump sneakers, a trump mobile phone, a signed trump bible… maybe one of his weird super hero NFTs? Who made you the selector of MAGA? People are tired of being lumped into a party or an ideology bc of something they said, did, or who they voted for in the past. We’re bigger than all of that. Just cut the bullshit, and do what’s right for the 99% of us.
Headline: “North Carolina Experiences 33% Increase In Homelessness”
Trump in May: “Truly, I think we’re in the golden age right now.”
A “Golden Age” for a few, a “Golden Shower” for most.
Trump on Wednesday: “The economy is unbelievable.”
Yes, “unbelievable” is probably the word you’d choose to describe the economy if you’re an Epstein-class oligarch. If you’re an ordinary Western North Carolinian the word you’d probably choose is “unacceptable” or “unsustainable.”
Hurricane Helene was a major factor in the increase in homelessness in North Carolina.
Trump in storm-ravaged Swannanoa in October 2024: “Every single inch of every property will be fully rebuilt, greater and more beautiful than it was before.”
Well, the hurricane struck in September 2024, Trump promised in October 2024 to rebuild every square inch even bigger and more beautiful, and here we are 20 months later still waiting as Trump slow rolls disaster relief to Western North Carolina. Normally, the federal government covers at least 75% of natural disaster damages: Western North Carolina has received about 12%.
It’s a shame that the bullshit the Trump administration peddles is a figure of speech: If it was literal “bullshit” farmers could use it to offset the shortage of fertilizer Trump created with his war with Iran.
Just out of curiosity I searched the tweets of people condemning this man for the choice of his family.
I had a hunch.
And yeah most of them regularly use the R words.
Pretending to care about disabled kids while using ableist slurs.
@KosherChutzpah@tlsmith1963 Are all Jews Zionists? You know what i dislike about you lot (leftists)? You lie on purpose. You KNOW what you are saying is false yet you say it anyway.
Screwworms in Texas. Ticks and alpha gal across the Midwest. Center rates among 30 year olds up 5 to 10x normal rates in some states. Invasive tree-killing beetles spreading across the country.
That’s America first, baby.
Yesterday I told you the government is pulling 900 ocean monitoring instruments out of the water.
Here is the part that should make every American angry, regardless of where you stand on climate.
Congress voted to fund this network. Not once. Twice. The Trump administration proposed cutting it by 80 percent in 2025. Congress restored the money. Proposed the same cut in 2026. Congress restored the money again.
So the administration labeled it a "descope" and ordered the instruments pulled anyway.
That is not a budget disagreement. That is an executive branch telling the legislative branch that its votes do not matter. The public paid for this infrastructure. Congress protected it. One office in Washington decided the public should not have it.
This is the pattern I document in 𝑾𝒆 𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒂𝒅 𝑮𝒖𝒚𝒔. It is not about left or right. It is about who decides what Americans are allowed to know about their own planet.
Who should make that call?
In 1943, Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann accidentally absorbed a tiny amount of LSD through his fingertips and spent the afternoon mildly hallucinating at his desk. Three days later he accidentally took 10 times than the standard recreational dose.
He drank what he believed was a cautiously small dose, and unknowingly took ten times a modern recreational amount with no frame of reference whatsoever.
At precisely 4:20pm on April 19, Hofmann dissolved 250 micrograms in water and drank it.
By 5:00pm his lab journal entries were deteriorating. Dizziness. Anxiety. Visual disturbance. Writing became impossible.
He asked his assistant to take him home. Wartime Basel had banned private cars, so the only option was a bicycle.
He spent the ride convinced his neighbour was a witch and that he had gone permanently insane. April 19 is now celebrated annually as Bicycle Day.
Hofmann later discovered that 20 to 30 micrograms were sufficient for noticeable effects. He had taken more than twelve times that amount.
He lived to 102, took small doses for the rest of his life, and called LSD his "problem child." He never regretted discovering it.
We have been warning the public on New World Screwworm for over a year now (some much longer than us)
We even had our account on X suspended for a month when we showed a picture of what an infection looks like in a human, shortly before there was a human case confirmed in the US last August
The Secretary of Agriculture continued to assure the public that the Screwworm situation was “under control” and continued to ignore concerns and requests from producers and elected officials from her home state of Texas
This is not something to no longer downplay or brush off
The Agricultural industry is already entering into hellish conditions this summer because of drought and rising fuel and input prices, compounded now with an outbreak of flesh eating maggots
We need serious and dedicated leadership on this
We need a whole of government approach
We need states next to Texas and Mexico to be able access the resources and funding to combat this pest as they will be caught completely off guard when it reaches their states
We have asked before months ago but are asking again for President Trump to declare a National Emergency Declaration TODAY!
Thank you for your attention to this matter
In 2025, only 21% of Americans experienced growth in their emergency savings.
That trend will likely get worse this year as inflation eats into disposable income.
My @Morning_Joe Chart.
I’will never get tired of reminding you that if men were the ones with a uterus, pads and tampons would be free. If men could get pregnant, you’d be able to get the abortion pill OTC, and there would be zero abortion restrictions.
The United States is the only country among all 38 wealthy OECD democracies with no nationwide requirement for any of the following: automatic voter registration, paid time off to vote, election scheduling on a weekend or public holiday, early in-person voting, standardized poll hours, or widely available mail voting.
Not one. Zero out of six. Alone among our peers.
Two-thirds of OECD countries schedule elections on a weekend or public holiday. The US holds elections on a Tuesday - one of only five OECD countries to do so by law. Of the other four, three provide paid leave for voting. We do not.
Eighty-two percent of OECD countries automatically register citizens using existing government records. We do it in roughly half of states, through opt-in systems at the DMV. The other half have done nothing.
The consequences are measurable. Among OECD countries that have adopted at least two pro-voting policies, average turnout in parliamentary elections is 82 percent. Among countries with one or no such policies, it's 68 percent.
The worker at a distribution center in Shelbyville who can't leave her shift on a Tuesday afternoon isn't failing democracy. Democracy is failing her. The system that requires her to choose between her paycheck and her ballot is not a neutral design. It is a choice. Thirty-three other wealthy democracies made a different one.
And now the SAVE America Act, the mail voting executive order, and the threat of armed federal agents at polls are all pushing in the same direction - making it harder, not easier, for the people with the least flexibility to participate in the only act of governance that is specifically theirs.
🔔 From @JuddLegum: “No, Trump's $1.776 billion slush fund isn't 'dead' — Without a written reversal, Blanche could simply say that the DOJ’s position has changed and the fund will move forward.”
