Five migrants stomp 17-year old Louis to death in Narbonne, France. After days in a coma, Louis died yesterday in the hospital. On the video, the migrants taunt Louis as he lies on the ground, struggling to breathe, choking on his blood.
After a hellish week in a Paris Airbnb with no AC (100°F outside, 108°F+ inside), I started looking into why the French are so opposed to AC.
There's many reasons: bureaucracy, poverty, etc. But the main one is decades of environmental campaigns that convinced people AC is the devil.
The result? You can't escape the heat. Most buses, metro lines, and shopping malls have no AC.
This Monday, 850 schools are closing because classroom temperatures exceed 104°F.
In Nantes, they built a brand-new train station and a hospital without AC for environmental reasons. The station is now partially closed because it's become a "furnace" that endangers travelers. Hospitals are covering windows with emergency foil blankets to protect patients.
The French demonize air conditioning because it creates carbon emissions that contribute to climate change. Never mind that France already has one of most carbon-free electricity in the world thanks to nuclear, or that it accounts for less than 1% of global emissions.
They also oppose AC because it "just displace the problem" by dumping heat into the street. Never mind that studies suggest even if an entire city were air-conditioned, the increase in outdoor temperature would be at most about 1°F.
Instead, people are willing to endure 104°F+ indoors to avoid a marginal increase outdoors.
This ideology kills more people than firearms in the United States.
Across Europe, between 50,000 and 70,000 people die from heat every year, mostly the elderly and the poor. Compare that to roughly 44,000 Americans killed by firearms.
For comparison, despite having a similar population, deserts, and more extreme temperatures, the United States has only about 2,500 heat-related deaths per year thanks to widespread AC.
That's what bothers me most. The moralizing posture completely detached from reality.
People feel morally superior for "not polluting." They criticize America and its guns while tolerating policies that kills even more people.
I share this anecdote because I know it's shocking to Americans. Here, schools or hospitals reaching 104°F would be unnaceptable.
The absurdity is immediately obvious to us because we're looking from the outside. We see the gap between moral intentions and real-world consequences.
But we're no different. In America, we have dozens of similar issues where we're just as irrational, and we've become blind to them because the solution isn't politically acceptable.
How do can we bring back logic and pragmatism in our societies ahead of irrational political ideological ?

Warum sollten wir also euer Land erobern?

Jeremy Clarkson’s Farm show on Amazon is the most radicalizing piece of mainstream media I’ve ever seen
Just one example (bear with me):
Badgers became a protected species in Britain 40+ years ago.
The population has exploded and now frequently transmits tuberculosis to cows
But farmers can’t cull the badger population to protect their cattle because the government still considers them to be endangered
Instead of addressing the root cause, the UK has the most batshit testing regime for cattle
There’s no TB vaccine. So the cattle have to get tested. The vets administering the test have to measure welts on the cows neck. Whether a cow lives or dies comes down to a vet trying to discern 1mm on a caliper (reactive vs non reactive).
If a cow tests positive, the farm (already running on super thin margins) is quarantined and starts hemorrhaging money.
Jeremy Clarkson’s cow (pregnant with twins) has an inconclusive test so it’s separated from the herd. It receives a second inconclusive test so they have to kill it (before it can give birth to the twins).
Now here’s the kicker: the autopsy reveals no sign of TB. It was a healthy cow needlessly killed
So - silver lining the farm should be removed from quarantine, right? WRONG - it’s still under quarantine and has to keep testing and can’t sell its beef
Kafkaesque doesn’t even begin to describe how f’d up it is for British farmers
My attempt to protect users from scam apps on the @AppStore has gotten my Apple Developer account flagged for termination - ironically, for "dishonest activity".
Unless it's reversed by June 30, all new installs of Sparrow Wallet will fail, and development on macOS will end.
The context: since 2023, more than a dozen fake "Sparrow" apps have appeared on the App Store, as recently as April this year. Users have contacted me after losing their savings, in some cases their life savings, to these impersonators.
I'm the developer of the real Sparrow Wallet, a desktop app, and I hold the registered US trademarks for the name and logo. I have publicly warned @Apple and the community about these fake apps from early 2024, but they keep appearing.
The app @Apple flagged was a placeholder that was never published. Its only purpose was to warn users that Sparrow is desktop-only and that other "Sparrow" apps aren't mine. This approach may have been misguided, but there was nothing dishonest about it.
I'm confident this is an automated misclassification that Apple would reverse on review - but I may be terminated before a human ever looks at my appeal. The cost would fall on @Apple's own users: blocked installs and no updates for a tool people rely on, which opens the door for more fakes.
If you value Sparrow, a repost would help. @AppleSupport

Elon Musk just proved that ownership in America is a legal fiction.
Musk: “You get taxed on what you earn, you get taxed on what you buy, and you get taxed on what you own.”
Think about what property tax actually means.
You worked for decades. Paid it off in full. The deed is in your name.
Stop paying the government its annual fee. Watch them take it and sell it to someone who will.
You never owned that house. You were leasing it from an entity you never signed a contract with.
Income tax tells the same truth in softer packaging.
The government does not take a portion of your earnings. They decide how much of your own labor you are permitted to keep.
That is not semantics. It is a confession of who the system believes your time belongs to first.
Sales tax buries itself in the receipt. Two people exchange value voluntarily. A third party who contributed nothing takes a cut simply for allowing it to happen.
Now stack all three.
Taxed when you create. Taxed when you spend. Taxed when you hold. Taxed again when you die and try to pass it to your children.
At no point in that cycle does the system recognize your output as yours.
Because money is not an abstraction. It is crystallized human lifespan.
Every dollar taxed is an hour you already lived, already bled for, already gone.
The state is not managing an economy. It is claiming dominion over time you will never get back.
And spending it on systems you never asked for and actively oppose.
The institution extracting all of it faces zero obligation to perform. A contractor who delivers nothing gets fired. A bureaucracy that burns through trillions gets a budget increase the next fiscal year.
SpaceX pays taxes to the agencies that obstruct its launches. Tesla funds the regulators drafting rules to shield its competitors.
The builders are not subsidizing government. They are financing their own friction.
The tax code is 74,000 pages long. Not because the economy demands it. Because the extraction had to be buried in enough complexity that you would stop asking who it was designed to protect.
The past belonged to the people who taxed the world.
The future belongs to the people who build it.

$IREN
Are You Positioned for What's Coming?!
I’ve said it before: IREN’s Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) is fundamentally simple. It is a predictable pipeline of GPU batch purchases and their associated revenue streams layered linearly on top of one another.
2026 ARR Roadmap
🔹Prince George: 23,296 GPUs → $500M ARR
🔹MSFT H1–H4: 76,896 GPUs → $1.933B ARR
🔹Mackenzie: 32,290 GPUs → $833.2M ARR
🔹Childress 50: 17,176 GPUs → $434M ARR
EOY 2026 Target: 150K+ GPUs → $3.7B ARR
2027 ARR Roadmap
The playbook for 2027 is identical: stacking successive hardware batches and compounding the revenue.
🔹Canal Flats: 12,344 GPUs → $312.4M ARR
🔹NVIDIA 60MW: 20,608 GPUs→ $680M ARR
🔹Childress 190 Air: 65,268 GPUs → $2.15B ARR
🔹Horizon 5-6: 38,448 GPUs → $2.08B ARR
🔹Sweetwater P1: 76,896 GPUs → $4.15B ARR
EOY 2027 Total - 363,852 GPUs → $13.07B ARR
To project these numbers, my model relies on some key assumptions:
1. Canal Flats utilizes the same unit economics as Mackenzie.
2. Childress 190MW Air utilizes the same unit economics as NVIDIA 60MW.
3. Horizon 5–6 and Sweetwater 1 (Phase 1) will debut VR200s.
I model the hourly rate for Vera Rubin chips at a significantly higher $6.16/hr. This premium accounts for both higher baseline Capex costs for those GPUs (significantly higher) and IREN’s ability to capture a small portion of the massive performance multipliers inherent to the Rubin architecture, and the marked improvement in GPU hourly rates over the last 9 months.
Buckle-up buttercup.
