Today, the children in Marvellous Minibeasts have been making music with percussion instruments. We have been experimenting with loud and quiet sounds and copying rhythms. They have also had a go at some urban percussion. I am sure they would love to continue at home.
The children in Heroic Hedgehogs have been learning about the famous Russian artist, Wassily Kandinsky. The children explored the ideas behind abstract art and began to create their own artwork based on Kandinsky’s most famous piece, 'Squares with Concentric Circles'.
The children in Marvellous Minibeasts had a 'trip to Spain' yesterday. The children made passports, had snack on the plane and even enjoyed cocktails from the beach cafe. Before the flight home children wrote postcards to tell their families what a wonderful holiday they had.
Year 1/2 have been observing changes in their beans over the past few weeks as part of their plants science topic. The children decided on where was the best place to put the beans in the classroom, where they would get the most sunlight. #primaryscience#success
In Heroic Hedgehogs, the children have been learning about Neolithic cave art - in particular studying the Caves of Altamira. After studying the pre-historic artwork, the children recreated some of these designs using black paper and earth-coloured oil pastels.
Class One had a surprise visitor. They met June, a four-week-old calf. We learnt all about where she was born, what she eats and drinks and how the farmers look after her. On Wednesday it was National Superhero Day we thought it would be fun to join in and have a superhero day.
Y 5/6 have been designing and making working carousels as part of their Victorian and Electricity topic. They began by researching the features that they would need. They then had to work out how they could use a circuit with a switch and a motor to get their carousel to turn.
Class 1 made 3D models of farm animals, using paper cups. They drew designs on a piece of paper and discussed which materials they would use for each of the animal's features. They made their models by following the instructions on their planning sheets.
Fabulous Flamingos have made trains as part of our D&T. They started by looking at different designs and what materials would be best to use. Following that, they made a plan that we used to start making our trains. They have added wheels on an axle to make their trains move.
The children in Heroic Hedgehogs learnt about the huge distances the stones used to build Stonehenge travelled. The children planned, designed and built vehicles that might be useful for transporting these loads. The children had lots of fun testing their vehicles in the sun!
