Rescinding PhD acceptance offers is changing the admission criteria from 'who is the best applicant' to 'who accepted the offer sooner'... Why? #AcademicTwitter
If we fail to improve the salaries and prospects in academia today, tomorrow, there will be no such thing as a post-PhD academia. Fewer and fewer bright minds will hold a professor position. The net result is a decline in quality of scientific training. Country-specific.
Perhaps @X should add a verified link or a button for scientist X profiles that will go to the publications of the scientist. A collaboration with ORCID or Google Scholar? @PhDVoice@_atanas_
How to prevent waste of time for PhD students and devaluation of the PhD:
1) two first-author research papers to graduate with a PhD, or get Master's to exit.
2) it should be PI's responsibility to keep the median PhD length in their lab = 5 years.
3) abolish dissertation.
minds referencing moaning on social media without having realistic experience/information on a specific issue. Complaining about academia on social media (and thus pushing away young scientists) while actively benefiting from the training etc that it gives sounds unfair to me 2/2
People who are in academia and complain about it are just like people who are abroad and complain about it. If you don't like it so much, why are you here? Frequently moaning about academia and its many problems on social media is helpful? I'm hearing more and more young 1/2
