Sickle cell disease is being considered for #NewbornScreening by #MSAC (the committee that continues to put cost over quality of life for our precious #babies). This process can take up to 2 years.
With a disease like this, every day to diagnosis counts.

This is why #newbornscreening matters, why the #government 80 disease national program committment matters.
They must end the rare disease #diagnosis lottery.
They must honour their commitment today.

"Every child deserves the best start in life. But the current health system across Australia is a patchwork, and only tests for 25 conditions. Labor will expand the newborn screening program to test for 80 conditions." -Anthony Albanese, 6 April 2022

#DiagnosisMatters we have funded treatment for diseases that @AustralianLabor refuse to test for at birth. With #raredisease every day to diagnosis counts. Up to 5 babies will leave hospital today without the critical diagnosis that will save their life.

@Joann5joann@AusPIPS150@DrShaneRRR This was fully costed by @AustralianLabor in the election incl the tests & the machines that process them. The existing heelprick card cld be used, with possibly 3 extra drops added to the card. No additional testing for the baby – 1 test – 80 diseases not 25.
