J Robinson was an assistant at the University of Iowa from 1972 through 1984 alongside Dan Gable. The Gable-Robinson duo took the Hawkeyes to new heights, winning seven of eight NCAA titles from 1977-84 while Gable was head coach.

Robinson was hired as Minnesota’s head coach during the 1986-87 season, leading the Golden Gophers to NCAA titles in 2001, 2002, and 2007.

Robinson passed on March 29, 2026, at 79.
