For decades, Birmingham’s main Five Points South intersection used to have a streetcar line and a roundabout with a stop in the middle of it, until the city ripped them both out.
Help us fight for a safer, prettier, and more accessible Five Points!
it's really sad seeing how the failure of @AtlantaBeltline and @andreforatlanta to provide transit on the beltline has become a lesson other cities are trying to learn from. we're not done yet here in ATL but hopefully QueensLink gets built !
The vast and rusty acreage of Bethlehem Steel in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. It staggers the mind to realize that this place helped build the modern America we see today.
@ExploresMr Birmingham steel history is fascinating as well. If you’re ever in town, our Sloss Furnaces has been preserved as an NPS national historic landmark. It’s one of the reasons we’re known as “Magic City”
Savannah is my kind of city. Walkable. Unhurried. More front porches than agendas. You don’t visit Savannah to check boxes. You visit to slow down and remember what a GREAT day can feel like.
@YIMBYLAND Does AHC currently have a range of operations? Logistically speaking, are you limited to Texas or can y’all accept calls in other parts of the country too?
@UrbanCourtyard We’d love to know your thoughts on what barriers exist to building courtyard blocks in the US. Is it a legal/zoning/building code issue? Lack of skilled developers? A perceived lack of public interest?
One of our goals is to advocate for better housing options in Birmingham!
The numbers are out for the new Amtrak route between New Orleans and Mobile. The data reveals that the “Mardi Gras Service” has seen nearly double the ridership predicted. We hear more about the success of this train trip, today on @LAConsidered. https://t.co/ENK7MJ9oJS
Birmingham has made a concerted effort to vastly improve biking infrastructure over the last 3-4 years. Every time a road is resurfaced, that road is evaluated for additional uses, such as the installation of bike lanes. #safestreets#streetlife#bike#bikelife#urbanism
Cyclists have the same legal right to use public roads as people driving cars. Riding with traffic is not reckless, it is lawful, expected, and protected.
Safer streets do not happen by accident. When cities invest in protected bike infrastructure and design streets that slow traffic, more people feel confident riding, commuting, and moving through their neighborhoods.
Bike commuting turns everyday travel into something healthier, cheaper, and more human. It saves money on gas and parking, improves physical and mental health, and reduces traffic for everyone.
