El-Sayed’s victory tells us something that’s been obvious for some time in Britain, crystallised in America with the election of the Islamist Mayor Zohran Mamdani in New York City, and can no longer be ignored.

This is that — astoundingly — hatred of Israel and the Jews has become the driver of progressive politics in America, Britain and elsewhere in the West. It’s become an organising worldview, the prism through which everything is perceived.

Its significance goes far beyond the Middle East or the Jews, about which most people know little and care less. The issue of Israel and “Palestine” is a Trojan horse for the real agenda: the Islamisation and destruction of the West through the “red green alliance” between the far-left and the Islamic world.

The “Forever Canada” position keeps asking Albertans to believe that if we just wait a little longer, vote one more time, elect one more federal government, or trust Ottawa one more time, somehow our problems will disappear.

That’s like hoping unicorns are real.

We’ve spent decades trying that approach. More centralization. More federal control. More promises that Alberta will finally be treated fairly. Yet we still face barriers to developing our own resources, policies that many Albertans oppose, and a system where our influence is limited by simple demographics.

At some point, wishful thinking has to give way to reality.

The Alberta independence movement isn’t about fantasy. It’s about accepting responsibility for our own future.

Instead of waiting for Ottawa to solve Alberta’s problems, it’s about Albertans making decisions for Alberta. If we succeed, we earn it. If we fail, the responsibility is ours. That’s what self-government means.

The unicorn represents the belief that someone else will eventually fix Canada for us.

The Albertan represents the belief that no one is coming—and it’s time to take responsibility for our own future.

On October 19, Albertans will be asked a question which can be simplified as:

Should Alberta become independent from Canada?

Whether you support independence or not, ask yourself which approach is more realistic:

Keep hoping the system suddenly changes…

Or accept reality, take responsibility, and let Albertans decide their own future.

36 years have now flown by since this Letter to the Editor appeared in the Shellbrook Chronicle. Just think, there was a 17-year-old guy living on a farm just outside of Shellbrook at that time who very well could have read that very letter (or at least his parents did), a guy who would one day end up becoming the Premier of our province. How someone raised in Saskatchewan in the 70s and 80s could have possibly become such an ardent federalist is a complete and utter mystery. Nevertheless, here we are in 2026. So much has happened since then. And we now have an extra mountain of evidence that federalist fantasies are foolish for this province; they've gotten us absolutely nowhere.

Doug Christie's final line in this letter takes the cake: "Wake up Saskatchewan! Separate before it is too late. Your farms, way of life, language and yes, your culture, depend on it." We should have listened then. And we sure as hell better listen now.

Why do we keep running away from the undeniable truth that this country can not and will not be fixed for the benefit of Western Canada? Independence is the answer yet time and again through the last century of our history we have ran away from this answer to pursue some sort of federalist fantasy which we can never hope to achieve.

Those who go along with this federalism muck because its easier than sticking out in a crowd to support a cause they actually believe in, are enablers. Those who choose to stand on the side of federalism because that's the side they think their friends or family or co-workers are on, are enablers. Politicians who cow-tow to the federalist stances of their parties to stay in the political in-crowd despite the fact that in their hearts, they actually side with separation are enablers.

What is an enabler? The definition of an enabler is "one who enables another to persist in self-destructive behavior".
Supporting federalism, at the end of the day, is self-destructive behavior. Western Canada benefits far less from the Canadian Confederation than the Canadian Confederation benefits from Western Canada. It is truly a parasitic relationship. And allowing a parasite to live on us and feed on us is self-destructive behavior. If we cannot achieve a symbiotic relationship, like we have been trying for well over a century at this point, its time to end the relationship, isn't it?

Dr Fauci and Mr. Science

The Fauci files reveal not just a sociopathic narcissist, but also a pathological schizophrenic.

For years, Fauci was assuring the public of Covid narratives that he either knew were untrue, or knew little about.

He posed as a non-partisan, even as he collaborated with the leftwing cable news grandees and liberal columnists to hound his enemies and magnify his godhead.

From the virus’s origins and effects of the lockdowns, to the efficacy of the mRNA vaccinations to the always changing 0/1/2 masks wearing protocols, Fauci used his massive government agency, and sycophantic media, to promote his always fluid narratives by punishing enemies and rewarding friends—on the basis of their loyalty to Dr. “I represent science”.

He seemed to be obsessed with firing White House Covid advisor Scott Atlas, and demonizing Jay Bhattacharya, Sunetra Gupta and Martin Kulldorff—for the crimes of questioning the Fauci party line.

These critics were not radical “let it rip” herd immunologists as the Fauci camp caricatured them, but circumspect, cost-to-benefit doctors and savvy health policy analysts.

Their views, if embraced, might have avoided a multibillion-dollar global shutdown that wrecked economies—especially derailing the booming 4th quarter 2019 Trump economy—increased the death toll, destroyed millions of livelihoods, harmed perhaps permanently the education of millions U.S. children, and was hardly based on the “science”.

And what exactly were the so-called extremist views of Atlas, Bhattacharya, and others?

Healthy children were not at great risk from Covid—but keeping them isolated drained away key resources from the elderly and sick who certainly were vulnerable.

And the nationwide school closures had profound negative effects on children and teens as did the lockdowns on the general population.

Substance and familial abuse soared, small businesses were ruined, and children’s formative educational years were lost.

24/7 mask wearing was neither practical nor necessary as opposed to their beneficial use by health care workers in close proximities.

The experimental mRNA vaccinations may have initially saved lives, but they were not, as billed by Fauci and the pharmaceutical companies, lasting protection from either infectiousness or being infected.

And certainly the repeated booster regimens for some could pose serious health risks.

Herd immunity was not some crank idea, as the Fauci school libeled these experts, but, along with the initial vaccinations, were time-tested medical realities that would mitigate the toxicity of the pandemic.

We have seen a lot of obscene hoaxes recently that changed national events: the loony Jussie Smollett caper; the phony “Steele dossier”; the “51 intelligence authorities” and the Russian-produced Hunter Biden laptop con; and the media fabricated effigy of Joe Biden as “fit as a fiddle”.

But Fauci’s effort to attribute the virus to a bat or pangolin publicly, while privately accepting from his own consultants that it likely was birthed in the Wuhan lab’s gain of function research—which he had helped to support via Peter Daszak—and the policies that resulted from that initial lie, proved literally for thousands a matter of life and death.

Albertans already tried reforming Canada from within.

In 2021, 62% voted to challenge equalization. Ottawa refused to negotiate, the other premiers refused to engage, and nothing changed.

That referendum proved Alberta’s only real path forward is independence.

From 1981: "No sooner had the Trudeau government been elected than it set about constitutional reforms which it had not mentioned in the election campaign, and for which it therefore had no electoral mandate. When the western provinces objected that their ownership of resources was not safeguarded in the proposed constitution, the Trudeau administration decided it would impose it upon them without provincial assent. When western MPs objected in the Commons, closure was invoked upon the debate. Ontario supported the reform, a fact which helped persuade westerners of a central Canadian plot to grab their resources. This fear was rapidly reinforced by the national energy program introduced with the budget in Oct. 28 after Ottawa and the oil-and-gas-producing provinces failed to reach an agreement on prices."

In the 80s and early 90s, the federal governments, under both Pierre Trudeau and Brian Mulroney, made a series of constitutional changes which ultimately were not good for the West. While the West pushed for several constitutional changes which would have, could have and should have improved the nation's system, to make things better for Western Canada, none of those changes were made. Instead, other constitutional changes were passed which worked against the West.

From this article, it is quite apparent how politically-interested and politically-active Western Canadians were and how much time and effort was made to try to improve things. The separatist movements of the 70s and 80s were curtailed by the rise of the Reform Party in the late 80s and 90s, but Western Canadians still continued to push for better, albeit they reset their sights on changing the country as a whole, rather than separating from the country to set up something better. Unfortunately, despite all their efforts virtually nothing changed for the better. At the end of the day, the power of Ontario and Quebec prevented the West from changing everything which they had tried so hard to change. The conclusion which should have been reached was that trying to get improvements for the West was a hopeless case, tantamount to banging one's head against the wall.

It is frustrating to look back on the history of the early 80s and to read about the events surrounding Pierre Trudeau and the National Energy Program then about Brian Mulroney and the Canadair contract fiasco in 1986 because its difficult to understand how Western Canadians could continue to want to stay loyal to Canada. Why did they reject the idea of separation and instead embrace the hope that if they worked hard enough that they could somehow change what existed? Their hope was certainly not justified. Perhaps that's easy to say over three decades later but its so difficult to understand how all that work to improve things for the West produced nothing in the end. Perhaps the only thing it produced is evidence that changing Canada as a whole is a hopeless and a foolish endeavour.
