At the end of the day, she understood any misconceptions or stereotypes that were common back then. I’m so grateful to have a family who supports me. I guess you *can* teach an old dog new tricks. We should listen to the other side, even if were biased. Try smth new. Stay open <3
Hot take: you can change, you just don’t want to.
So many people actively choose to refuse listening to the opposing side of an opinion that they don’t like/agree with (i.e. abortion, religion, homosexuality) and it usually happens with people who aren’t educated abt said topic.
She sat through the whole thing and learned about how people view it today. She felt it was internalized because of all the homophobia during that time. We talked for hours, questioning and answering. She’s 76 and still willing to learn, because she was OPEN. SHE CHOSE TO LEARN.
