President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is currently at the People’s Ville housing project in Barangay Riverside, Calinan, Davao City, on Tuesday.

The 14-hectare housing project is a flagship initiative under the "Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH)" program, featuring 7,200 affordable condominium units for low-income families and informal settlers in the city.

Many don't seem to understanding what is at stake here and why we need the Pax Silica projects. The IT-BPO sector is SLOWING. From its peak of sustained 8%+ growth just years ago, we may not even get 2.5% growth this year. There are whispers that we may be at 2.1% or lower even.

Yes, the party is over! The sector that used to reliable print tens of thousands of jobs and lift people into the middle-class can't do that anymore. Some, including us at @cirrolytix Research Services based on our private research and consultancy work, think we're not just slowing - we're stagnated, or worse, at a risk of STALLING!

There's a real chance that by 2030 or sooner, we would be at NEGATIVE growth for the local IT-BPO sector as AI automation, Western job reshoring and competition in India (who are also feeling the pressure) takes its toll.

What then, huh? What happens when our beloved contact centers, business outsourcing centers, foreign banking offices start shedding jobs or closing? What do we do when the skyscraper lights of Ortigas and Makati go dim, when the millions of jobs attached them them like food and courier services and maintenance are shed too? How do we fill the millions of jobs we could potentially lose in 5 years? What happens when consumer spending collapses because the BPO workers no longer have jobs, our service sector that caters to them bleeds and the skylines of Metro Manila dims before our eyes? What then?

The scenario I paint is the worst case scenario. I pray and hope and am optimistic that out local BPOs can survive this and innovate. I wish they do but in the event they can't due to global forces and incompetence, we must have alternatives or we will see our middle class vanish before our eyes.

The AI, semiconductor and minerals sector is that alternative. Other than ship-building, we have nothing else and thank God, geopolitical currents have made it so we are offered a once in a generation chance to radically turbo-charge our economy the same way the BPOs did in the 2000s.

Just as we took a chance with the BPO in the early 2000s, let us take a chance here now and provide a generation of Filipinos the comfortable middle-class lifestyle they deserve.
