MBTM Presents: The 50 🔥Sexiest Moments In Hip-Hop
Moments that shocked, titillated, pushed boundaries—and really pissed people off. Over the last several decades, hip-hop has pushed buttons and raised eyebrows. We want to examine that history through a sex-positive lens...
Peabo Bryson, James Ingram, Luther Vandross, Freddie Jackson etc represent a certain kind of polished 80s R&B that it feels like we’ve lost in the years since. Rest in peace to a king of the quiet storm.

“Fruits Of Nature” is a slept on album. It sits somewhere between Native Tongues and GangStarr to me. And they gave us a certified jazz rap classic with this one. Staten Island’s own.
@BeyondTheMemes also always thought it was totally odd that Martin Lawrence's character just randomly had a giant UMCs poster in his apartment for what I think was the entire run of the sitcom. I wonder if there's a story there!
@BeyondTheMemes UMCs are totally slept on. People think the Wu was the first Staten Island group to hit. The second UMCs album, Unleashed, is a little more "street" (which admittedly doesn't totally suit their vibe) but it's still worth hearing

What about these guys? U.N.V. “Universal Nubian Voices” — because they wanted to have the most 90s HBCU men’s choir sounding name ever. The one dude looks like a wayward Temptation. This song was alllll over quiet storm radio.
Rubin signed the Beasties, Public Enemy and the Geto Boys. The Beastie Boys were presented as frat boy cartoons. The Geto Boys were initially horrorcore. It makes you wonder what his lens was for PE. Was it to promote music that was Black and aware or just to shock white suburbia
I don’t exactly disagree with that but when you look at how hard the Beasties fought to get away from him, it speaks to how much his tendency to go for caricature and shock wore thin. What kinda artist wants a Howard Stern to be their label boss
“Michael Jackson was like Lion-O, cuz. For real. The Jacksons was the Thundercats and Michael was the littlest Thundercat who grew up to be Lord of the Thundercats.”
“Hm. So was Joseph Jaga?”
{awkward pause}
“Why you gotta make erything sound stupid?”
When The Black Crowes blew up, they were like an old school rock & roll band in a time of grunge and alternative rock. They were a band that held onto the “roll”—which is just another way of saying they retained the Black rootsiness of the music. Most 90s bands lacked the “roll”
In the great donut vs cupcake debate, I have always been Team Donut. Cupcakes typically look better than they wind up tasting. Donuts rarely let you down. Donuts can even kick ass when they’re plain. Cupcakes can’t claim that, fam
🎶 Still In Love With You”
Jam & Lewis ballads 🔥 Ricky Bell only got a handful of standout moments in New Edition and this is one of them. And it’s cool that Ralph Tresvant seems genuinely happy to share the mic with Ricardo.
