@americanrquiem1@Amin_Goblin@Mannishboyxbey I also think he’s probably gonna release and Beyoncé will probably be on at least one song, so it’s not like we should give up all hope for some Bey songs
@imluizf@StopLaughingHoe@brandnriah Britney managed 1 in the very early years post-y2k.
Adele was an outlier.
Taylor is chart obsessed
Point is, Mariah’s conditions when she released those albums made the numbers more achievable than they were by the time Bey debuted solo
@imluizf@StopLaughingHoe@brandnriah “Different phases” is just an excuse to pull out Mariah’s 90’s numbers that would be virtually impossible to achieve in any other decade since the 90’s.
Tina Turner’s first successful album as a soloist was her 5th when she was 25+ years into her career and over 40.
@imluizf@StopLaughingHoe@brandnriah She had strong competition from Whitney, Madonna and Celine Dion in the 90’s.
Nobody post-turn of the century would’ve been able to compete with 90’s physical era sales. Your basically comparing 2 completely different industries with different benchmarks
@brandnriah@allmightybenny In the US. Globally B’day annihilated TEOM.
And saying “15 years into her career” is bs.
Tina Turner’s first solo album that was successful was her 5th (Private Dancer) when she was 20 years in and was over 40 years old. Stop making excuses.
The Emancipation of Mimi (10th album) being at 13.8M while 4, Beyoncé, Lemonade, Renaissance, and Cowboy Carter (4th-8th albums) are all below 12M is so… 😭
Dragging Mariah for her sales is a choice.
@brandnriah@allmightybenny Are you slow?
“Totally different stages of their career” does not trump industry dynamics.
Taylor is on her 12th album and 20 years in still selling, your excuse that “iT’s HeR 10Th AlBuM” is bs no album, debut, sophomore or 10th is guaranteed success or failure. Stop bs-ing
@mfundozstar 15 years covers the 2010’s boo, so whatever point you’re gonna try and make, is gonna get the same response - Beyoncé stopped caring about appealing to pop radio and mainstream trends with 4. So much so that she was basically blacklisted from pop radio for the entire decade.
@mfundozstar And like I said, we both know the underhanded shit Taylor had to do to get that number…
AND we also both know that Beyoncé ain’t doing that shit and she hasn’t for 15 years now
@archive_janet@brandnriah@allmightybenny Not even Adele can sell that much in a year anymore. Taylor only can thanks to endless vinyl variants and an onslaught of promotion, neither of which Beyoncé can be bothered to do.
How is the concept of “album sales declining” be so difficult to understand? It’s well documented
@mfundozstar ≈15M by October (being generous) isn’t “pretty close” to 20M and we know the amount of underhanded shit she had to do
Comparing the sales of a 90’s album in its first year to the sales of albums that released a decade later and in completely different markets is insanely unfair
@brandnriah@allmightybenny So then why are you afraid of comparing TEOM’s sales to an album that came out over a year later? Or the one that released 3 years later?
@archive_janet@brandnriah@allmightybenny It hasn’t. You’re just making shit up.
In 2022 it was certified 7x platinum and it sold just under 5M in 2005
It took the album 17 years to add 2M units, it’s impossible for it to have gone from ~7M to 10M in 4 years
@mfundozstar Mariah’s prime was in the 90’s when that was still possible for a lot of big artists.
Not even Taylor could sell 20M copies in a year now. Context matters, that’s why comparing based on release dates is far more accurate than by chronological release.
@imluizf@StopLaughingHoe@brandnriah We weren’t using streaming numbers we were comparing albums that were released at similar times that way the potential differentials were minimised
