Hon'ble Chief Minister Shri @SuvenduWB ji today made an announcement in the Legislative Assembly regarding the use and promotion of Bengali and other regional languages for administrative purposes across all Government departments, autonomous bodies, boards, corporations, and local bodies, with effect from 1st September, 2026.

Following this announcement, I have received messages from many people expressing concerns about the use and status of Nepali and other regional languages.

I have spoken to the Hon'ble Chief Minister regarding these concerns. He made it unequivocally clear that the Government is fully conscious of West Bengal's rich linguistic and cultural diversity, particularly in the Darjeeling Hills, Terai, and Dooars regions. He reiterated that the Government's initiative is to promote the use of all regional languages, including Nepali, in governance and public administration, rather than limiting official work predominantly to English.

This initiative is in line with the broader vision of the Government of India to encourage the greater use of Indian languages in governance and public administration. The recent communication from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, encouraging wider use of Indian languages in official work, underscores the importance of making governance more accessible, inclusive, and citizen-centric. Today's announcement in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly reflects this broader national objective.

I would like to assure everyone that Nepali and all other recognised regional languages will continue to receive equal respect, recognition, and promotion. Sh. Suvendu Adhikari ji is very aware and sensitive about the emotions of the people and he is highly respectful towards the people of Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars region. Please rest assured that the BJP Government will take every possible action in preserving the linguistic and cultural heritage of every region of our State while ensuring that governance becomes more inclusive and accessible for all.

১ সেপ্টেম্বর ২০২৬ থেকে সমস্ত সরকারি কাজ বাংলায় পরিচালনার সিদ্ধান্ত এবং প্রয়োজনে কেন্দ্র-রাজ্য পত্র বিনিময় হিন্দি ও বাংলায় করার উদ্যোগ আমাদের মাতৃভাষার মর্যাদা রক্ষার ক্ষেত্রে একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ পদক্ষেপ। প্রশাসনের ভাষা যখন মানুষের ভাষা হয়, তখন সরকার ও সাধারণ মানুষের মধ্যে দূরত্বও কমে আসে।

রবীন্দ্রনাথ, নজরুল, বঙ্কিমচন্দ্রের ভাষা এই বাংলা ভাষা—এই ভাষার সম্মান রক্ষা করা আমাদের সকলের দায়িত্ব। বাংলা ভাষার প্রাপ্য সম্মান প্রতিষ্ঠিত হোক প্রতিটি সরকারি দপ্তরে, প্রতিটি প্রশাসনিক স্তরে। রাজনৈতিক মতভেদ থাকতেই পারে, কিন্তু বাংলার মর্যাদা ও বাঙালির আত্মপরিচয়ের প্রশ্নে আমরা সবাই এক।

On behalf of the people from Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars I extend my heartfelt gratitude and sincere thanks to the Hon’ble Chief Minister Sh. @SuvenduWB Ji, for his prompt and positive intervention in restoring all Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration cards in the our region.

Following concerns raised by various sections of the people, including daily wage earners, senior citizens, women’s groups, students, PDS dealers, BJP Darjeeling and Alliance parties, and several social organisations regarding the sudden deactivation of AAY cards, I had personally reached out to the Hon' Chief Minister and requested his immediate attention to resolve this issue at the earliest. I am deeply grateful that Hon'CM Suvendu Adhikari Ji responded swiftly to our appeal and issued necessary directions to ensure that all AAY ration cards in the Darjeeling hills have been fully restored and activated.

This timely decision will greatly strengthen food security for the most vulnerable and economically weaker families in our region. It reflects the Chief Minister’s commitment towards the welfare of the people of the hills and his sensitive approach to addressing genuine grievances.

On behalf of the people, I once again thank the Hon’ble Chief Minister for his people-friendly governance. We are confident that under his leadership, the aspirations and basic needs of the hill people will continue to receive priority attention.

I also urge all AAY card holders and the general public to share this important information widely with their families, friends, and neighbours so that every beneficiary is fully aware of this positive development.
