Regarding the shameful ban on the film "Satluj"/"Punjab 95" in India

I thankfully got a chance to watch the extremely powerful film "Satluj" on Zee5 over the weekend before the Modi Govt abruptly pulled it down.

The film tells the story of human rights crusader Jaswant Singh Khalra who exposed the butchering of innocents that happened in Punjab in the mid-90s. It is a reckoning of a horrible chapter of our history which we have ignored for decades.

The film exposes a diabolical era where our institutions failed miserably. The fact that the film has been banned just goes on to show how much our "democracy" has further eroded under the Modi Govt.

I have written to Sh Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon'ble Minister for Information Broadcasting and IT expressing my strongest protest against the banning of this important film.

I understand this is a futile exercise but history will not forgive us if we choose to remain silent.

We owe it to the memory of Jaswant Singh Khalra and the thousands of victims of Punjab whose story is being shamefully buried. It is time that our nation starts having the uncomfortable conversations that are required to acknowledge and confront the dark episodes of our past.

#WATCH | Delhi: Son of Army Brigadier, Tejas Singh Arora says, "It was around 10 PM that night... Some unidentified individuals were sitting in their Mercedes car, drinking. Since this was within a residential society—and drinking in public places is illegal—my father and I confronted them... They retorted, claiming to be locals, and refused to leave... I called the PCR van. When the police vehicle arrived, the officer refused to record our complaint; furthermore, the man who had been drinking put the officer on a phone call with someone. After speaking with that person, the officer flatly refused to register our report... Subsequently, 7 to 8 goons arrived in two cars. In total, there were nearly ten people present at the scene... When we went to the police station, they refused to even listen to us for nearly half an hour. Eventually, they instructed us to undergo a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) examination first, stating that they would register the report based on those findings... After waiting for an hour, we decided to go to the Army's R&R Hospital, where our MLC report was prepared and subsequently forwarded to the police station... This afternoon, with the Indian Army's CMP (Corps of Military Police) and their support staff, the police initiated the process for filing an FIR... The individuals who were drinking in the car belong to Mehram Nagar and come from a business background."

If they don't export oil, they don't get dollars, they are dead because they have ignored all their resources and are addicted only to oil. So, he has strangled Venezuela and by stopping the export of oil and because of sanctions, the production has been paralyzed. So, the Venezuelans were desperate to get export oil and dollars..."
