@Pscholes_X That's exactly how it happened for me. The opportunity wasn't even mine at first, but the questions it created ended up changing my direction.
There is a physics concept from 1925 sitting at the heart of @quipnetwork's proof of work mechanism.
It has been used for 100 years across physics, economics, biology, and social science.
Most people in crypto have walked right past it.
That concept is the Ising model. And understanding it changes how you see everything @quipnetwork is building.
Here is what that mechanism actually is in plain language.
Imagine a network of magnetic particles. Each particle has a spin. Up or down. Each particle is influenced by the spin of its neighbors. When left to settle naturally, the entire network finds its lowest energy state. Every particle lands in the position that creates the most stable configuration across the whole system.
That settling process is not random. It is the solution to a problem.
If the interaction between the spins is engineered correctly, that lowest energy state represents a solution to a problem that may appear to have nothing to do with spins at all.
That is the Ising model. A physical process that finds optimal solutions by letting a system settle into its most stable configuration.
Here is how @quipnetwork's CTO Richard Carback described it directly:
"What we're doing is we're searching for a particular Ising model that matches a particular energy target. It's a problem that's much more difficult for classical computers to solve, but very, very achievable for quantum computers."
That is not a theoretical claim. That is the mechanism already running on testnet.
Quantum annealing encodes real-world problems directly as Ising model energy landscapes. The quantum system starts in superposition of all possible states simultaneously. It gradually anneals toward the lowest energy configuration. Quantum tunneling allows it to escape local minima that trap classical algorithms.
The result is an optimal or near-optimal solution to constraint-based problems that classical systems struggle to solve at scale.
@quipnetwork did not build a quantum network and hope developers would find uses for it.
It built around the exact mathematical mechanism that already has documented real-world performance advantages for the exact problem classes enterprises are trying to solve today.
