New eligibility rules are now in effect and will apply to all asylum claims made on or after June 3, 2025. These rules help keep the asylum system strong, fair and focused on providing protection to those who need it.

Yesterday, we announced a new Express Entry category for highly skilled foreign military applicants recruited by the Canadian Armed Forces for key roles such as military doctors, nurses, and pilots.
This category — and other priority categories — supports Canada’s Defence Industrial Strategy announced earlier this week by adding a range of workers critical to supporting our sovereignty and security.
