Jesus didn't establish the messianic conditions described in the Hebrew Bible. Christians defer them to a Second Coming, yet multiple New Testament passages appear to place that coming within his followers' lifetimes.
Christians, Explain how both can be true. No special pleading
@normangnosis@AsinineOrganism exactly which means it's fun to read i guess, maybe, but shouldn't be taken seriously for what it says. wouldn't be a big deal if people didn't base many life decisions around it
@RickWMiller1@AtheistPhoenix Mark 13:30 says "this generation" won't pass before "all these things" occur. Even the Catholic Bible notes Paul expected Jesus' return in his lifetime (1 Thess 4:15). By 2 Peter 3, Christians were defending the delay. How is postponement evidence of fulfillment?
@RickWMiller1@AtheistPhoenix Your question about a "deadline" dodges the issue. Where does the Hebrew Bible predict a Messiah who dies before restoring Israel or ending war, then returns thousands of years later to finish? The second coming is a Christian explanation of nonfulfillment, not proof of it.
