A developer has spent over a year creating a fan-made Half-Life port for the original PlayStation and, instead of releasing it right away, has asked Valve for permission first.
The developer is giving Valve one month to respond:
“If they don’t respond in a month, I’ll assume they’re okay with it and release it.”
They also said the project isn’t intended to infringe on Valve’s work: “I’m not distributing any of Valve’s assets. It’ll just be the source code, and you’ll need to own Half-Life to build and play it yourself.”
The current build averages around 17 FPS on real PS1 hardware, and the developer is aiming for a stable 24 FPS.
@loopsighted@JTAlexander In their defense I was a cashier at a truck stop once and an update was pushed out changing the ui to an objectively better laid out one, but I was still pissed off for months because now it didn't match my muscle memory anymore. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
