As pointed out by @EHansenND, there was only one idle team that moved down in the College Football Playoff rankings from Tuesday to Sunday.
Notre Dame.
Every other team that didn't play during conference championship weekend either moved up or did not move at all.
Hm...
Lose by 14 to 5-7 FSU in your first game of the season.
Struggle with 4-8 South Carolina.
Lose at home to the only ranked team you face in November.
Struggle with 5-7 Auburn.
Lose by 21 the day before the bracket’s made.
Get put in the CFP.
Pretty sweet deal Alabama has.
Here's the other ridiculous part: The committee moved BYU down for getting crushed in a title game to set this up... after not punishing Alabama at all for getting crushed in a title game.
This is the worst committee we've had in history. They should be embarrassed.
Getting blown out in the Conference Championship matters for a Big 12 team like BYU, but doesn’t matter for an SEC like Alabama who had more losses and a bad loss to a 5-7 team? Unbelievable SEC bias.
This is the worst selection committee we've ever had.
Cannot believe Alabama didn't even drop one spot after the SEC title game blowout. Cannot believe they waited until the final reveal to flip Miami-ND. Could have done it at ANY point.
Miami has 9 FBS wins and an FCS win.
Notre Dame has 10 FBS wins.
Notre Dame has zero bad losses.
Miami has two unranked losses.
Playoff teams don’t lose those games.
Simple.
Total opponent FBS wins:
Notre Dame: 75
Miami: 69
ND played the tougher schedule — and handled business.
Every major poll:
CFP, AP, Coaches — all have Notre Dame ahead of Miami.
Not one poll or ranking system sees Miami as the better team. #GoIrish
