POST & GET method, when to use each..

Most people mess this up when they start using HTTP nodes in n8n, so here’s the simple way to think about it:

If you’re sending data to something → use POST
If you’re just fetching data → use GET

That’s it.

Now let’s make it real in n8n terms:

When you set up a webhook to receive data (like from a form, Telegram bot, or another app), that request is almost always POST.

Why?

Because data is being pushed into your workflow, message, email, payload, etc.

Example:
Telegram bot sends a message → webhook → that’s POST.

On the flip side, when your workflow is trying to get information from an API, like pulling user data, leads, or search results, that’s GET.

Example:
You connect to an API to fetch user details → that’s GET.

Quick rule you can remember:

POST = “I’m giving you something”

GET = “Give me something”

One mistake I see a lot: people try to use GET for things that require a body (like sending messages or creating records).

That won’t work, GET doesn’t carry a body like POST does.

So anytime you’re unsure, just ask yourself: “Am I sending data… or requesting data?”

That answer decides everything..
