Artificial intelligences do not undergo experiences, do not possess a body, do not feel joy or pain, do not mature through relationships, and do not know from within what love, work, friendship or responsibility mean. Nor do they have a moral conscience, since they do not judge good and evil, grasp the ultimate meaning of situations, or bear responsibility for consequences. They may imitate or even simulate, but they do not understand what they produce, for they lack the affective, relational, and spiritual perspective through which human beings grow in wisdom. #MagnificaHumanitas

Following a week of in‑country consultations and a national stakeholder workshop in Tarawa in early May, meaningful steps have been taken toward Kiribati's potential accession to the EU–Pacific iEPA.
The workshop brought together government agencies, regional partners and technical experts to review findings, discuss opportunities, and help shape Kiribati’s next steps on trade, development and market access.
This progress is made possible through @EUPasifika support via the #SPIRITProject, implemented by @ForumSEC, strengthening Pacific countries’ capacity to engage in trade and regional integration.

As part of the Pacific Quality Infrastructure Initiative (PQII), the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS), in collaboration with Standards Australia and with the support of Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, convened the inaugural Technical Committee meeting of the Pacific Islands Standards Committee (PISC) on harmonized Pacific Regional Kava Standards.
Held in Sydney, Australia from 20–22 April 2026, the meeting brought together twenty (20) experts from Pacific Forum countries to strengthen regional cooperation, enhance quality and trade, and support the growing cultural and economic value of Pacific kava. Kava is more than a traditional Pacific beverage, it is a symbol of hospitality, respect, unity, and cultural identity across the Pacific Islands.
For generations, it has brought communities together through ceremonies, dialogue, and social gatherings. Today, kava is also gaining importance as a key economic commodity, supporting livelihoods and creating new trade opportunities as global demand for natural wellness products continues to grow.
Further updates will follow as the regional standards work progresses and future PISC meetings take place.

The Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat is hosting the 2050 Regional Convening this week - providing a platform for our members, youth leaders, CROP organisations and international partners to discuss a shared vision for the 2050 Strategy—grounded in regional priorities, lessons learned, and the power of collective action - hands-on collaboration exploring shared ownership of the Strategy.
From opening remarks and youth voices to data-driven discussions, today set the tone: evidence matters and partnerships matter more.
"ONE STRATEGY only succeeds through MANY HANDS. Shared ownership is not symbolic. It is practical.
It means governments leading. It means planners and statisticians anchoring decisions in evidence.
It means CROP agencies supporting, not duplicating, national efforts.
It means partners aligning behind regional priorities.
It also means recognising the vital role of communities, civil society, traditional leaders, the private sector, and young people. Not as beneficiaries of this Strategy, but as co-owners." - SG Baron Divavesi Waqa

Big news for the Blue Pacific 🌊
The @EUPasifika has renewed its major ocean partnership with the Pacific, launching PEUMP Phase 2 with a €20 million investment (approx. USD23.6 million) through to 2030.
Working alongside @spc_cps@TunaFFA@UniSouthPacific and @PacOceanComm , this next phase backs healthy oceans, strong fisheries, and resilient communities across the region - including Timor-Leste.
From tackling illegal, unreported and unregulated #IUUFishing to strengthening ocean governance, boosting value chains, and investing in education, science and training - this is about turning commitment into action.
As EU Ambassador to the Pacific Barbara Plinkert said, despite our different geographies, we are united by a shared responsibility to protect and sustainably manage our oceans. Because for the Pacific, the ocean isn’t just a resource - it’s identity, livelihood, and future.
FFA Director-General Noan David Pakop said this strategic partnership will help maximise sustainable returns while building climate resilience, ensuring the benefits of our ocean are shared across Pacific communities now and for future generations.

While there has been progress in specific areas, gender equality in the Pacific remains uneven and significant gaps persist.
As a result, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) week at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat brings Senior Officials from our member countries, CROP experts and development partners together to strengthen gender equality and disability inclusion — sharing lessons, aligning priorities, and turning regional and global commitments into action for the Pacific.
GESI Week empowers members with the skills to effectively represent national and regional positions at key processes like CSW and COP—while staying true to the Pacific commitment to leaving no one behind.
