Our complaint to @BBCR4Sunday with reference to a debate about 'grooming gangs' earlier this year, has been partly upheld.
Sunday, Radio 4, 12 January 2025
22 May 2025
Complaint
The programme included an interview with a former public prosecutor who is a Muslim, prompted by renewed concerns about so-called Asian grooming gangs following interventions by Elon Musk.Ā The presenter put to him the point that Hindu and Sikh organisations had objected to the term āAsianā in this context as being imprecise and had advocated the use of āmen of Pakistani heritageā instead.Ā In his response the former prosecutor referred to a report by Sikh Womenās Aid (SWA) on abuse of women in the Sikh community and said he had been invited to write a foreword for the report because SWA had been unable to find a Sikh man willing to do so.Ā A representative of the Network of Sikh Organisations disputed the accuracy of the former prosecutorās account, particularly in respect of the alleged unwillingness of Sikh men to be associated with the report and SWAās motives in contacting the former prosecutor, and provided extracts from a document by Sikh Womenās Alliance (SWA is now called) in support of his complaint. Ā The ECU considered the complaint against the standards for accuracy set out in the BBC Editorial Guidelines.
Outcome
In relation to the willingness or otherwise of Sikh men to be associated with the report, the management of Radio 4 had already acknowledged in correspondence that the report, which had been in the public domain for some time, included prefaces by Sikh men (although this was not known to the programme team at the time) and subsequently agreed with the ECU that a statement to that effect should have been posted on the Corrections and Clarifications page of the BBC website.Ā This aspect of the complaint was upheld.Ā In relation to SWAās motives, the ECU noted that the organisationās recollection of its contact with the former prosecutor differed from his, but considered both parties were speaking in good faith and judged that the programme had been entitled to place reliance on the former prosecutorās recollection.Ā This aspect of the complaint was not upheld.
Partly upheld
Further action
The finding was reported to the management of Radio 4 and discussed with the programme team.

BREAKING: JUDGE ORDERS SEIZURE OF TEACHER ENOCH BURKEāS ā¬40,000 BANK BALANCE AND WALKS OUT AS ENOCH BURKE SEEKS TO MAKEĀ SUBMISSIONS
Enoch Burkeās bank account containing ā¬40,000 has today been seized by the Courts. This follows the seizure by the Courts of his teaching salary last week. The Court also directed that the Attorney General may apply to seize any other assets owned by Enoch Burke.
Senior Counsel Brian Kennedy SC for the Attorney General was granted as much time as he wished to make his submissions in Court on this unprecedented matter and was not questioned in any way by the bench. By contrast, when Enoch Burke rose to speak, he was cut off after only 5 minutes by Mr Justice David Nolan, who repeatedly interrupted him. The Judge then delivered his pre-prepared ruling immediately.
Enoch Burke sought to draw attention to the fact that the root cause of this case, the principal's direction to all staff to address a male student by a new name and the "they" pronoun, has never been assessed for its constitutionality or lawfulness by any Court, despite these proceedings being now ongoing for more than 2.5 years. When Enoch Burke read out Article 44 of the Irish Constitution, which binds the State to "respect and honour religion", he was immediately shut down by Judge David Nolan.
Enoch Burke's brief written submissions, which he was prevented from bringing or reading out in Court by Mr Justice David Nolan, are also attached below.
20 years ago today, Section 28 - harmful legislation prohibiting positive discussion of LGBTQ+ experiences in schools - was repealed in E&W.
But how much have things really changed?

UK: Cops in @northumbriapol reportedly showed up to a womanās door to interrogate her for writing on X that ātrans women are menā and calling out the mutilation of children. This is a transcript of the interrogation. Absolutely terrifying.

Wrong! Vanessa is an outstanding officer, leader, inspiration. You have no idea how tirelessly she works on behalf of EVERYONE. Targeting the Chief and targeting a PC (which you do in this thread) is evil. Evil.
