The shocking attack on our institutions will likely trigger a legal battle to decide who gets to oversee voting as the 2024 election approaches — neutral parties or fanatical Trump fascists.

The 22-11 vote to remove Wolfe is red meat for Trump supporters who have been ceaselessly attacking and smearing her since 2020. Not surprisingly, none of their criticisms hold any weight and are instead a grab bag of conspiracy theories.

Thankfully, Wolfe might end up staying on as administrator of the bipartisan Wisconsin Elections Commission in spite of the vote because top Democrats — including state Attorney General Josh Kaul — have correctly pointed out that the vote is illegitimate.

Democrats are pointing to precedent set by a prior state Supreme Court ruling which allowed a Republican-appointed official to remain in his position after his term expired because the Senate did not confirm his replacement.

This is the line in the sand. Republicans must be stopped.
