In order to be genocide, it still has to be done with genocidal intent, which has been narrowly interpreted by courts to mean intent to physically destroy the group.

In order to prove genocidal intent, you must prove intent to *physically* destroy the protected group, not just socially. I do think it's genocide in this case, but it is not as legally clear cut as you would think.

@ztech1979 I think it would be quite foolish to trust an AI to fix your pipes over an actual human with domain specific expertise. Would the AI give me better advice on a topic than a random human without expertise? Probably. Intelligence can't be reduced to a single measurable metric.

@ztech1979 @hecubian_devil The main point is that the amount of novel and useful information you can generate from mere rearrangement is much, much, much smaller than the amount of novel and useful information you can generate from rearrangement + addition from human imagination/qualia/sensory data.

@ztech1979 @hecubian_devil the reason why it's useful to disprove math conjectures like this is because in doing so, you need to develop a bunch of new mathematical techniques that can then be reused elsewhere. afaik, claude simply found a counter example without generating a new technique to find one.

No. Some amount of ideas are generated wholly from human imagination, something AIs struggle with atm

Those people aren't just rearranging existing information, they are generating novel ideas that don't already exist in the entire corpus of human knowledge.

@hecubian_devil This was a skilled prompter (mathematician) prompting AI to do a narrow brute force calculation in a clever way that produced a novel result. It doesn't prove an AI can produce transformationally novel insights on its own. It's just rearranging existing information in a novel way

@BmoreOrganized I think by "reddit atheism" they mean the civilizational framing that became common after the soviet union fell and portrayed muslims as savages attacking secular liberal enlightenment values. Obv reddit atheism was influenced by this rather than caused it, they prob jus unaware
