The fog is still hanging in the low spots.
Light comes through it slow. Gold, not white. The street looks washed. Trees hold the last of the night like they are not ready to give it back. Air already warm on the skin. Night never really let go. You can feel yesterdayβs heat waiting in the pavement. By afternoon this town will sit at 95 and the heat will have a name.
I used to want the other kind of morning.
The sharp one. The cold one. The one that makes a man feel clean before he earns it. That is not what early September gives.
It gives this. Heavy air. Soft light. A quiet that will not last past the first truck.
I take it anyway.
A beautiful morning is not crisp. It is honest.
It tells you what the day will cost and still hands you the first hour clean. I used to waste hours like this waiting for a better feeling.
The feeling does not arrive first. The work does.
I step into the gold while it is still here. Fog lifting off the bottoms. Street empty enough to hear my own feet. This is the part that belongs to me. Not the heat. Not the numbers. Not whoever is already awake somewhere else.
Just this.
The light.
The air.
The decision to move before the day starts arguing.
I use it.
See you at sunrise. π π
