@__realslimkaty Girl it is going to be AMAZING! The first time you see him, hear him cry, sniff his little head, the first time he’s laid on your chest - it’s going to be so amazing you’ll forget all about the upcoming toddler years for at least a month 😅😂
“Then a dispute also arose among them about who should be considered the greatest.” Luke 22:24
Here the Lord is, trying to prepare us for what is to come and we’re doing the same thing they did. We’re just slicker, trying to prove who’s greater by who’s righter.
Holy Week 2022.
God, grant me the serenity of wanting to eat the food I got at home. The courage to not buy food when I’m outside, and the wisdom to know the difference.
Let us not become so spiritual that we forget the humanity of Jesus and those who loved him. That we forget our own humanity and the ways our own losses and traumas have shaped how we see/feel the world. Let us not forget those things because they are what will help us love MORE.
That next Easter/Resurrection felt so different to me. I saw Jesus and the people differently.
Because I knew how it felt to lose a friend who was young. A friend who everybody had something to say something about. A friend who many people followed for his light and his voice.
outside of being trauma informed, I started thinking differently about the people who loved Jesus at his death, after my own friend died a tragic death that the whole world posted about. The comments I saw on TMZ. The way people constantly reached towards us who loved him...
I hope you understand your theology must be trauma informed too.
There is no part of me that is impressed by anyone who leaves that out of their understanding.
Peter did not deny Jesus because he had a bad day. Peter was trauma responding to the horrific murder of his friend.
When speaking of the details of the Jesus' last days, I hope you do not forget it was traumatic for others to witness. I hope you do not demonize Thomas or Peter or anyone else who tried to survive something so destructive to their brain and nervous system.
We want the war horse.
Jesus rides a donkey.
We want the eagle.
The Holy Spirit descends as a dove.
We want to take up swords.
Jesus takes up a cross.
We want the roaring lion.
God comes as a slaughtered lamb.
We keep trying to arm God.
God keeps trying to disarm us.
People are not abandoning Jesus.
People are abandoning churches and theologies that unapologetically use Jesus as tool to control, manipulate, and abuse them and others.
There’s a huge difference.
Instead of reprimanding them, we as the church should be reforming ourselves.
“War must be, while we defend our lives against a destroyer who would devour all; but I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend.”
― Faramir; J.R.R. Tolkien
I am baffled how often professing believers in Christ—often leaders—feel no need whatsoever to apologize—publicly or privately—or clear up misinformation they spread. It seems, if you’re a watchdog for the church, you get to bite at will. You’re somehow above the ethics of Jesus.
Some pastors refuse to "let" their congregants seek mental health care because they view depression, anxiety, & other mental health issues as issues of sin. It's all about sin for them. Many of these issues are a result of someone else's sin, not by any fault of the congregant.
