Why is it this bad this season?
☀️ Long dry spell = all pastures burnt, cattle die,low reproductive rate( repeated heat
🌽 Poor harvest = no bran, no Hay
💰 Prices doubled: a bale of Hay 12k now 18-20k
And this is not just Ankole. Its across all farming communities!
Excited! I have been selected as a Fellow for the Generation Africa Fellowship Program 2026 (GAFP) by Finestride & AGRA.
Ready to learn, grow $ take my scope of work ( in Env’t, health & food systems) to the next level.4rm Mbra- Africa. Thank @GenAfrica_#GAFP2026#Agripreneur
That experience was immense - an eye-opening convergence of Africa's brightest minds shaping the future of food systems. It deepened my commitment and broadened my vision for what is possible for Ugandan farmers.
This milestone is particularly meaningful to me. Last year, I was privileged to be fully supported as a Uganda Delegate by AGRA to attend the Africa Food Systems Forum (AFS Forum) in Dakar, Senegal.
@PNyamutoro@JeremiahBabi@UEDCLTD There a lot more we can do to produce an alternative, I could be available to showcase my alternative innovations/ solutions to this !0786936803
@PNyamutoro@JeremiahBabi@UEDCLTD Hon.
One of the materials for making briquettes is charcoal dust? That would encourage trading of charcoal again, can we think of a replacement for that dust ?
3/3! Intervention!
-Removed from direct sun light !
-Antibiotics: Penicillin to prevent or treat secondary infections.
-Anti-inflammatories to control fever, and skin irritation.
-IV fluids ( electrolytes)!
- Wound Spray!
Vets share your thoughts 😊
How would you go about it?
Earlier today, one of my farmers called me for this Terrible condition!-commonly known as Photosensitization!
There are so many other differential diagnoses but from the history she gave me and the farm surroundings, I realized it’s Lantana camara poisoning ( kapanka)Runyakitara.
2/3.
These are main clinical findings!
• Swelling and redness: Unpigmented, thin, or hairless areas—especially the muzzle, ears, eyelids, and around the mouth became red, swollen, and painful.
• Peeling and sloughing: The skin blisters, cracks, oozes serous fluid.
4/4 - CALL TO ACTION
Farmers, there is a way out:
> ✅ Affordable feed formulation using available local feeds
> ✅ Hay & Silage making to save for dry season
> ✅ Pasture management & proper breeding.
>✅Practice CSAs
Plz retweet to save a farmer. #ankolefarmers#climate-change#
Ankole farmers are in trouble & other regions!
I’ve worked with many farmers in the last 8 years but this season is too tough
Many calls this week:
“Doctor, feeds are too expensive!
Pastures are dry!"No milk
This is the reality of climate change in Mbarara, Kiruhura, Isingiro.

3/4-The Pain
Feeding less to save money will cost you MORE.
I am seeing it on farms:
> 🥛 Milk: 10L -> 2L
> 🐄 Cows not coming on heat
> 🐃 Calves dying, stunted growth.
> A hungry cow gives you nothing. It's not saving, it's losing.
