What an earth was this driver playing at? Surely he had no right to follow the ambulance through a set of red lights with pedestrians waiting to cross?

Cringe and reckless are the only words to describe launching a sports car down a 20mph high street. Honestly go book a track day if you truly want to test out what your overpowered car can do. As a cyclist in central London I will always get to my destination quicker than you.

The segregated bike lanes in Kingston are nice but crossing peripheral roads often poses a problem. Here I always slow going over the junction and anticipate any driver who might move across my path. Of course I have right of way but obviously a car is always going to win here.

@GaryJk64 @VerityPlayer @laurencyclist @London_Cycling @theJeremyVine @MikeyCycling @XR_Hamm_Fulham Of course, like a lot of things, there isn’t a quick easy fix but cycling as an alternative transport option has to play a big role in alleviating congestion in urban areas. Hence the importance of cycling infrastructure and positive messaging from councils/government on cycling.

This is probably up there with one of the worst altercations I’ve had with a driver. I started recording just as the BMW pulled out in front of me - I was travelling around 25mph (quite fast but under the speed limit). (1/5)

For the few who think I had ample time to allow the driver onto the road - observe the right hand side where, from the very beginning, I am pulling full front brake in order to slow and avoid a collision. Even the most defensive of road users would not anticipate this fool.

@Fernand35781151 I suppose the BMW driver failing to give way to me is also a ‘natural reaction’?
Drivers who are diligent at checking when a junction is a clear need’nt worry about a tapping noise coming from their rear left.

In 2022 Surrey had the highest KPI (cyclist killed or injured) in the country. It makes me think it is down to aggressive drivers like this who will eventually harm a vulnerable road user. It makes my blood boil knowing he got away with this incident. So many do. (5/5)

I did report this to Surrey Police but because the driver’s face was not on display in the footage they were not able to prosecute him.
I was disappointed with this outcome. (4/5)

I opted for the inside of the vehicle in the hope this would give me some more road to slow down in time. As I moved up the inside of the car I tapped the vehicle in a last ditch attempt to let them know I was there. In response the driver slammed on his brakes and stopped. (2/4)

@JimsWheels @laurencyclist Probably should have provided some more context but essentially he pulled alongside me and began to shout that I had deliberately held him up by just my sheer presence on the road…

Driver reported to Surrey Police who have taken action. Drivers think again before you harass a cyclist for ‘holding you up’, they may have a camera and you may be prosecuted.

@GarethM79 @laurencyclist Ah not quite. The driver pulled alongside to express his anger towards me preventing him from overtaking on a blind bend by taking a more central position in the lane. This happened before I started filming.
