@vanishedchicago@Chicago_History@PeteKastanes I loved that place! The deal in our family was if you were "good" while mom shopped, you'd get to check out the toy center at the end of the expedition. You can bet we all were on our best behavior! If we are *really good* we might even get something small to keep.
@WhiteHouse What utter horse-pucky.Most of this footage is from other states--TX, FL, NB and SC.Crime is down 35% this year in Chicago, to levels not seen since 1966.We don't need the TX National Guard in our state. We don't need ICE agents teargassing legal residents and our police. Go home!
Taking the 349N from Blue Island (have a PD at Leo HS on 79th). While this bus is #PACE, much of its run is in Chicago. It is *packed*-school kids, seniors, ppl going to work, folks with mobility issues. Good public transit is important! #activetrans#cta#mobility#publictransit
@ErikToddDellums Gosh, that boggles the mind. Your voice is beyond fantastic. I just was watching Avatar the Last Airbender with my students in the Anime Club and we were all admiring your beautiful voice and how much character you added to the creepy Koh Face Stealer. Blessings and luck to you!
@justakidfromlbc@Brownkyl1 That’s not a ‘k-12 ed sucks’ problem, nor is it a ‘mediocrity’ problem; but it’s definitely a culture issue! Some students are addicted to their screens. Virtually all are online for *hours* every day. You should worry about socialization!
@justakidfromlbc@Brownkyl1 1 of 2: I am an award-winning teacher of STEM. I would love to see more kids get excited about the Sciences and Math and I work freaking hard to craft interesting, challenging lessons. A big barrier is the huge use of cell phones during and outside of class time.
3 of 3: When she is confronted by the driver, she literally shuts down and cannot advocate for herself. In fact, she will be stressed about it for hours, due to her disability. What is the policy now regarding folding bikes? When did it change? #CMAP#PACE
2 of 3: Her Brompton does NOT fit on the bike rack because the wheel base is too short. This is her only way to get to school each day and the bus service only comes 1x/hr—when she’s not ghosted (but that’s a different issue) #CMAP#PACE
1 of 3: My autistic 24 year old daughter has now been refused service 2x on PACE buses because she has a folding bike. It is non-motorized w/no battery (it does have dynamos for lights). She folds it completely every time she is on a bus or train. #CMAP#PACE#AutismAwareness
@A_A_RonMR Uggh. So true. They recently changed the boarding at Rock Island line Vermont St in Blue Island. Everyone was waiting in the reg spot. Announcement said to! But s.o. At Electric St ran to us yelling ‘you need to be on other side!’ We all scrambled as train was arriving. Scary!
@CoachBalto Used to have this at schools in our district. Insane! Ppl would arrive 1.5 hr early to wait in line (in a town where any child more than a mile from school got bused and most commutes were all sidestreets). Changed the policy. Implemented Bike and Walk to School. So.Much.Better!
