Judge Backus decision is just another example of how the current bail bond amendment has failed New Mexico and left our communities unsafe. When the bail bond amendment passed, I warned legislators soon we would need to revisit the amendment to fix its flaws
out of the courthouse and back into their communities with almost zero guarantee that they will ever show up to trial.
Regardless of political party, New Mexicans can recognize the danger of the judge’s ruling and the risk it poses to public safety.”
