@BrownPatch@authordlewis Absolutely, but you’d have to ensure that the tax was at a sufficient level that it would fully cover the cost of repair and upkeep of all roads.
@SarahForRuncorn NO! for the sake of women’s safety, we need to be locking up the perpetrators of violence rather than pensioners who are simply holding signs peacefully.
@richard1999jon1@SimonHarrisMBD Women’s football uses EXACTLY the same laws of the game as men’s. So could you explain to all us pricks exactly HOW it is a different game please.
@LeanneSpurs Yeah, Notting Hill was a fictional film role, not a documentary. What on Earth does anyone in Clacton have in common with a multi millionaire who lives rent free in his girlfriend’s house?
@osmug60@authordlewis …or maybe abolish vehicle excise duty and have a charge based on weight and mileage. It would encourage us to eat more locally produced food. 🤔
@osmug60@authordlewis Not sure how this fits into a discussion about how we fund the repair of potholes but absolutely yes, if my shopping habits increase damage to the roads then I must be prepared to accept higher prices to compensate….
@SteveRocks8@authordlewis The income from road tax is £9 billion pa and the budget for road maintenance is higher than that. So road tax doesn’t even cover the cost of road maintenance.
@MeeroyLFC@authordlewis So how would you meet the cost of repair? I’m not saying my ideas are perfect, but it seems only fair that the burden should be on those who cause the problem.
@SteveRocks8@authordlewis Oooh got to mention the immigration myth £4-5 billion on immigrant costs, £12 billion on combined highway maintenance costs but hey, as long as you can get the I word in.
