Although I was already interested in wildlife, this is where, in 1973 at the then "Rye House Marsh", my life absorbed by birding & natural history began, aged 12 with the local YOC group. Now the intention is to close the reserve & hand it back to TW. 1/n

This is remarkable . Holkham's Spoonbill webcam captures the moment a Spoonbill lays the third egg of its clutch. First time ever in UK such a moment has been filmed and probably first time in UK it's been witnessed.
@OdowdBarry It was with Donana Nature, based in El Rocio. It is a bit hit and miss but our guide said he sees them about 1 in 3 visits. Hope all good with you.
Successful trip to Donana national park with exceptional and repeated views of Iberian Lynx. Good supporting cast of Spanish Imperial Eagle and abundant waterbirds. Still very dry in most areas though.
@adriawildlife Yep, I was always interested in what they were foraging for. I still grab a bit in the spring while doing breeding bird surveys around Cheshunt pits
Then back to mainland Greece to look at the options for restoring a lignite mine. The undisturbed site has Bears, Wolves and Wild Cats, as well as hundreds of nesting Bee-eaters.
A great pleasure to work with NCC Ltd Greece on the island of Folegandros, looking to create a wetland oasis for migrant birds at the Gundari resort. Hydrology and topography checked, all looking good. Plans drawn up and sent to owner. Eleonora’s Falcons always overhead.
Creating landscapes with more nature is a great and necessary idea - we try and do our bit
But ‘rewilding’ as an ideology is struggling in practice… it quickly runs up against legal and ethical boundaries in human landscapes
This is worth a read…

Tiny Bird Tower...
One of the highlights of this summer was building this project in northern Denmark – a small watchtower overlooking a wetland and a small lake. The tower was delivered to the site as a complete structure, set on a self-levelling platform.
We call it the “treetop café” because this tiny tower features two benches with a small table between them, perfectly suited for 2–4 people. A panoramic view. No distractions. Just a cup of coffee, preferably in good company, and sweeping views of nature alive with birds, plants, and insects.
This project was made for the Danish Fugleværnsfonden.

@ELBF2010@ianbennell75@RSPBRainham I had a meeting there the next day but had to go that evening as I knew the scrapes were not good enough to hold waders overnight! 😩
