@Hot_Pepper76 As a kid I went with Gomer. I loved the episode where Sgt Carter got so fed up with Gomer that he drove way out in the middle of nowhere and screamed his head off from a hilltop 😂
@LamentationsJ@BBGreatMoments You can check them out on YouTube. Bench's was first. Clemente landed almost the same place, upper deck near the 415' marker.
@LamentationsJ@BBGreatMoments Sure was. He dueled Wilbur Wood for durability, but he wasn't a knuckleballer! I don't have a problem that Blue won the Cy. He had a phenomenal year, with Lolich just behind him.
Trivia fact, he & Blue allowed the two longest homers in the 71 All Star game. Clemente and Bench!
@LamentationsJ@BBGreatMoments Lolich too. They were neck and neck for Cy Young considerations, it was his breakout season under Billy Martin who gave him the trust Mayo Smith never could until the 68 Series
@daniel_jackett@JordanCrestani Not lying, I drove home from the Twin cities where I lived at the time, for memorial Day weekend. Tigers were in Seattle and televised all 3 games. They lost every one! I drove back to Minnesota with the Tigers at 35-8.
@martymaciaszek Yes indeed - that was the 3rd amateur draft, those are fun to look at.
He wasn't the only bust, but Bobby Grich was 3 spots behind him. Vida Blue in the 2nd round. Some names you know and love are in there too.
Most interesting, Archie Manning and Dan Pastorini were also drafted!
@DaveKerner Sweep avoided! After the brooming by Sox, Tigers shock the world by going into the Trop and sweeping the Rays. Go figure! Offense wakes up with 25 runs over 3 games, nearly equal to previous 9.
@tigersMLreport Jace only hitting .222 per the screen but has a 0.75 BB/K ratio, reaching base a lot.
Do wish he could lift that average but after 50 games, projects to approx 24 HR / 30 2B / 100 BB season. Diff between AVG and OBP is .123
@LamentationsJ@BBGreatMoments All 4 got MVP votes, McNally got the only Cy votes, Palmer and Cuellar were All-Stars. Their stats were similar but McNally led in wins despite missing several starts. All were true pitchers, each had something different to keep hitters off balance (see the low K totals).
@sonodoc99@BBGreatMoments Yup, the Bucs did, I rooted for them. But if you remember, their pitching got hot too. Kison, Blass, Briles, and Giusti were all solid and minimized damage from power hitters especially Boog Powell.
Short series, that's why you play 'em!
From Tigers' Peter Chase: Jake Rogers is the fifth Tiger in the last 15 years to homer and drop a sac bunt in the same game. The others:
Alex Avila (2011)
Don Kelly (2011)
Andy Dirks (2012)
Akil Baddoo (2023)
