@JessicaNCross @US_OCB TA is also my favorite currency 💶, maybe seeing some inflation in the future??
So happy to see that Mona (@HereonHelmholtz ) could make the trip to present her thesis work on metabolic alkalinity in German coastal waters!!
📅 If you're coming to #ASLO23 next week, don't miss our coastal #GHG session on Wednesday! ⏰
Oral + poster presentations on all things CO2 + CH4 + N2O. Estuaries, coastal, offshore waters, and everything in between!

Digging into historical data collected by @TCEQ in estuaries of the northwestern Gulf of Mexico, we had a surprising finding - during a period of severe drought in early 2010's, estuarine waters up and down the coast are super enriched in sulfate (1/14)

@Coastal_Jawn Totally, which is especially sad as the allo/auto question determines whether IC accumulation should be added or subtracted from the C budget...
Yet another reason for us to get the inorganic carbon accounting right in #bluecarbon ecosystems! Understanding both source and fate of CaCO3 is critical, and will make or break our ability to #mrv Blue carbon-based #mCDR

@fcstpauli Danke #fcsp1Frn!! unser erstes Spiel auf der Tribüne mit euch hätte nicht besser sein können, kommenden Jahr sind wir auf jeden Fall dabei!

Our #seagrass meadows are a valuable resource, so what's the risk in #bluecarbon valuations (€)?
Socially, financially, and for the climate, quite a lot it seems. All the more reason to get the science right. I'm glad our work could help make the case

als Hauptgrund dieser #Razzia wird Verkehrsbehinderung genannt. also gut. denn ich gehe davon aus dass der nächste Schritt wird die Ursache des Verkehrs (🚗) zu bekämpfen. oder?

4) estuarine CO2 emissions are led by 🇪🇺 and 🇷🇺tidal systems & deltas, as well as African lagoons
5) we have an observational bias towards global North, which should be addressed to improve our understanding of the global coastal carbon budget
Our new RECCAP2 coastal synthesis - led by @j_a_rosentreter - shows estuaries & coastal vegetated habitats are a🌍net sink for GHGs (CO2+N2O+CH4). Some key points 🧵(1/3):

1) Globally, CH4&N2O emissions offset 9-20% of CO2 uptake
2) mangroves dominate coastal vegetation CO2e uptake, followed by seagrasses and salt marshes
3) but, estuarine CO2e emissions offset ~25% of this coastal veg CO2e uptake
Today published in @NatureClimate: Coastal vegetation and estuaries are collectively a greenhouse gas sink. A new synthesis of coastal #CO2 + #CH4 + #N2O fluxes in 10 world regions and globally. Read here: https://t.co/1FkIGVCnDU
