We have a few more highlights from our trip this past January! During the trip, we continued making progress in removing invasive species from a local ecosystem. We also watched a documentary about Vietnam, Puerto Rico.
For the six high school students who presented at the @UofIllinois Undergraduate Research Symposium last week, it was all about that “a-ha!” moment.

Yesterday, we explored the rainforest, went swimming at the beach, and ended the day with ice cream. 🌳🏖️🍦 What an amazing time! 🤩 We’re now all relaxed and ready for more work today! 💪
Lots of fun yesterday! We spent the day removing invasive species from a local ecosystem.🌱🌿 We also noted what types of trees and plants exist in the area with a participatory mapping app 📱, and we met the founder of Caras con Causa! 😄
We had a great first day! 😎 We spent the morning exploring the local ecosystem. 🐜🌱 We then took measurements and pictures for potential new rainwater collection cisterns at a local school. We ended the day with volunteer work at a community center and reflections! 😁👏
We’re excited for another amazing study tour in Puerto Rico! ✈️🇵🇷 Follow us as we share highlights from each day of our trip! 😄 @IllinoisABE@IPENGIllinois@ACESStudyAbroad

🌞 From Puerto Rico to Illinois, our summer REU projects have been keeping us busy! Exploring early flood warning systems, ecosystem services, mangrove propagation, and wastewater effects on local ecosystems and public health, we've been having a fun time! 🌱 #SummerResearch 🌳🔬
On Friday, we had a tour of the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. We enjoyed learning about the history of the buildings and about the different university traditions that take place on campus. Here are our favorite photos! 📷 We ended the week with dinner with a view. 🌅
We’ve been having a great time in Puerto Rico! During the first few days of research training, students learned about high-performing teams 🤝, types of literature 📚, citation managers 📖, and stakeholder engagement 🤗. We then reviewed our research projects for the summer. 🔬
We’re heading back to Puerto Rico today! 🇵🇷 We’ll be spending the upcoming week working on research training and a design challenge for our #REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) program. 💪 @IllinoisABE
