I felt the colour variation in these puff adders (Bitis arietans) was stunning. Crazy the fact they were also removed from properties less than 15km apart. Sampled and released (under correct permits and ethical clearance) in a green-protected area. #conservationoptimism#Snakes
ATTENTION: To all followers who have ever had an encounter(s)/experience(s) with a southern African python (Python natalensis) in the wild, please fill out the questionnaire below for my friend Kirsty Kyle for her PhD research on them @UKZN

NOTE: Giant bullfrogs are protected species in South Africa. The photographing and handling of the above individuals was all done under the correct permits and ethical clearance.
Happy New Year, everyone! All the very best for 2025 from these big green(ish) meat potatoes! Giant bullfrog (Pyxicephalus adspersus) @Green_Darkie and I found, hoping for plenty more epic herping in 2025! #NewYear2025#frog#research#Zoology#conservationoptimism#frog
And now for some jungle dragons!
These chaps are as follows.
1. Gonocephalus bornensis, Borneo anglehead lizard or Borneo forest dragon.
2. Bronchocela cristatella, green crested lizard.
3. Gonocephalus liogaster, blue-eyed anglehead lizard, or the tropical forest dragon
It's always nice to find a "lifer" or new species for your list in your local area, not just far away places. For me it was my first encounter with this guy. Sundevall’s Shovel-snout (Prosymna sundevallii). It's also #ReptileAwarenessDay#conservationoptimism#SaveTheSnakes
Last week myself, Prof Weldon, Prof Cook, Dr Verster and Mr Els proudly represented the @NWU_UESM of @theNWU at the 10th World Congress of Herpetology #wch10 , a collection of 1400 delegates from 70 nations together in Kuching Malaysia #conservationoptimism#researchers#WCH10
