The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to award the 2022 #NobelPrize in Chemistry to Carolyn R. Bertozzi, Morten Meldal and K. Barry Sharpless “for the development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry.”
Just across the street, a monument of empty chairs sits on the former site of the main Leipzig synagogue (also destroyed during that unfortunate time in human history).
Due to his Jewish heritage, the statue of Mendelssohn (who was, arguably, the person most influential in unearthing Bach’s works for us all) was torn down by the Nazis. Thankfully it has been rebuilt.
