Ahead of the EU Fertiliser Action Plan, we joined NGOs & farmer groups to call for a shift away from fossil-based synthetic inputs. Dependency on volatile gas & fertiliser markets is not resilience. Organic & agroecological systems show another path

No fertilisers = no food.
Higher prices are pushing farmers to their limits: less fertiliser, lower yields.
With the next sowing season approaching, Europe cannot afford to wait.
Today, we're acting with a new Action Plan to ↓↓
Today, the European Commission announced the Fertiliser Action Plan: a plan that supports farmers facing rising fertiliser costs and scarcity, reinforce domestic production and reduce Europe's dependency on imports. Lets bring Ireland to net zero! #biocore#nutricore
Developing renewable energy systems such as Anaerobic Digestion provides Ireland with improved fuel security and diminishes our dependency on imported energy.. #biocore
Assistant professor of environmental horticultural in UCD Dr Noeleen Smyth told RTÉ's This Week saying that unlike animal invasive species, when it comes to plants "the enemy is within".
Dr. Smyths said: "We grow nearly 70,000 things in our gardens but, it's not the things that are going to get us from out there, it's the things that are already here and spreading."
National Biodiversity Week 2026 runs from Friday 15th - Sunday 24th May and Dr.Smyth discusses how Ireland already has more non-native plants recorded on its shores than Irish ones.
Native plant species in Ireland had declined by 56% over the last 20 years. Over the same time, non-native abundance has increased by 80%.

Anaerobic digestion converts organic waste into renewable energy and nutrient-rich fertilizer & prevents methane emissions from landfills. It promotes a circular economy & reduces dependence on fossil fuels & synthetic fertilizers! #biocore
We were thrilled to welcome the team from the University of Galway 👋for a behind the scenes tour of our Anaerobic Digestion Plant @stem_galway#biocore#sitetour
The industry has been reacting to news that the Government's anaerobic digestion plans are at risk due to the EU's decision on its proposed Renewable Heat Obligation scheme. https://t.co/yE8GEe8wYE
We are causing #globalwarming 100 times faster than past natural changes
We are taking Earth’s 🌎 climate beyond natural limits, with CO2 & temps levels not seen for 3 million years.
No time to wait. #ActOnClimate#climate#energy
Austrian-based biogas plant developer Biogest and Ireland renewables firm Local Power have struck a strategic partnership to accelerate the development of agricultural biomethane projects across Ireland. https://t.co/Pwt2VbNF31 #gasworld#industrialgas
Nutricore Digestate, the by-product of biogas production, is helping to transform Ireland’s agriculture. By using it as an organic fertilizer, we can enrich our soils with essential minerals while promoting carbon sequestration. #Biocore#anaerobicdigestion
The new Biomethane Environmental Sustainability Charter, published on November 5th, is a significant advancement for the biomethane sector as we work towards our target of producing 5.7 terawatt-hours (TWh) of indigenous biomethane by 2030. #nutricore#digestate
We are celebrating the 11th anniversary of achieving official ISO 45001, 9001, and 14001 certifications. We are promoting safer workplaces, environmental management practices, and customer satisfaction. We look forward to a safe, sustainable future. #westassured#biocore#biogas
