BuzzZZZ……I'm gonna wake you up!
Meet our PhD candidate Jhen Liu, working on elephant mosquitoes (Toxorhynchites)and Aedes japonicus, investigating their biotic and abiotic interactions within different elevations and how the population richness changes in response
Are you ready for a fight?! Let me show you my weapons!!
Meet Chung-Hsin Huang, a Ph.D. candidate studying stag beetles in Taiwan! He's conducting behavioral experiments and 3D scanning their mandibles to learn more about their fighting behavior.
Scientific studies have shown that being in nature can help improve mental health and cognitive function.

There's a high chance that butterfly lovers will be able to meet him at this year's International Congress of Entomology in Kyoto. Take a photo with him and tag us!!!
He is one of the authors of the book “Butterfly Fauna of Taiwan Vol. V” with extraordinary illustrations which has provided a great categorization of Nymphalidae butterflies in Taiwan. Based on curator’s source Zong-Yu also won the “Dr. Sato Entomological taxonomy academic award”
Felipe is studying the role of habitat variables - such as coral cover, soundscape complexity, community diversity, and biomass on reef fish recruitment, with hopes to better understand how to predict and promote fish community diversity within our imperiled coral reef ecosystems

Wanna see some cute fish with me? Let’s go diving!!
In this month’s insight BAAS, we take a look at some cute reef fish that our TIGP Ph.D. candidate Felipe Monteiro Gomes de Mattos is working on.
Reef fish are important components of coral ecosystems, but globally face numerous threats that have resulted in their decline in numbers and diversity.

Remarkable journey for Prof. Li
Prof. Wen-Hsiung Li, a Distinguished Professor at the Biodiversity Research Center, Academia Sinica (BRCAS), has dedicated over 50 years to genetics and molecular evolution, leaving an indelible mark on the scientific community.
He was awarded the 2023 Presidential Science Award for life sciences in Taiwan, the highest recognition in the scientific arena, in recognition of his lifetime of dedication and immense impact on research.
Chia-ling started a 2-year period of habitat monitoring, including 4260 sights, and identified more than 450 individuals to better understand the abundance of sea turtles.
⚠️To protect the turtles there is a 300k NTD fine for anyone touching or disturbing them.💸💸

What is your Turtlebook ID? Add me!!
In this month’s insight BAAS, we would like to introduce the TurtleSpot TW cofounder and TIGP Ph. D candidate Chia-ling Fong (海龜姊姊).
Xiao liu-qiu, an algal-dominated coral reef island, is regarded as the primary foraging habitat of hundreds of green turtles in Taiwan. Every year, tens of thousands of tourists visit this beautiful area to have a sneak peek at the underwater garden.
The activity was made possible through the help of the local indigenous elder council, Central Mindanao University, the International Association for Plant Taxonomy, and thr Society of Systematic Biologists.
