@WinterRiverRd @KatyaFrank_ I'm not so sure the interaction would have gone so smoothly if I (a white person) hadn't been there. I have never been stopped while birding with other white people, except occasionally by friendly passers by curious about birds. It's an inequality that needs to be discussed more

Probably my favorite thing about being a biologist is the terms that are treated as the professional standard. Friendly reminder that a "stick poke test" should be used to confirm if an animal is deceased.

@WinterRiverRd There are people I've talked to that were huge proponents of masks while the mandate was on, but now that it's lifted they say nothing and wear nothing. I think it's either a failure of personal integrity, or a perception of rules dictating morality

@WinterRiverRd I think I might have the one from my undergrad course, but I'm pretty sure it was mostly just bird ID trips for lab. @KatyaFrank_ does that sound about right?
