With just three days to the Ekiti Governorship Election, the conversation now shifts from the candidates to Ekiti people.
In the 2022 governorship election, Ekiti had 988,923 registered voters, yet only 36.7% cast their ballots. Nearly two-thirds of registered voters did not participate in deciding who governed the state. That remains one of the most important findings from the last election.
As Ekiti heads to the polls again, voter turnout will be a key measure of civic engagement. Beyond the candidates, parties, and campaign promises, will Ekiti show up to vote?

Ahead of the June 20, 2026 Ekiti Governorship Election and the August 15, 2026 Osun Governorship Election, Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) embarked on a series of advocacy visits to key stakeholders across both states as part of stakeholder engagement towards peaceful elections. We engaged faith leaders, traditional institutions, security agencies, and election management bodies on the shared responsibility of promoting peaceful, inclusive, and credible elections.
As election season progresses, collaboration remains essential. Free, fair, and peaceful elections are built through collective action long before citizens proceed to the ballot.

Young people are central to Nigeria’s democratic future. But how prepared are they to lead civic engagement where they serve?
KDI is currently training NYSC Officers to strengthen the Civic and Voter Education CDS and expand youth led civic awareness across communities.
What role should young Nigerians play in strengthening democracy?

From Enugu to Delta, Taraba, Kano, Kogi, Enugu and now Ondo, Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI), has successfully concluded its Civic-Tech and Human Rights Clinics across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
On Friday the 27th March 2026, our engagement in Ondo State marked the final stop in a nationwide series of hands-on sessions where civic actors and stakeholders didn’t just gather to talk, but to test ideas and share experiences. Every conversation, every question, and every contribution is feeding into something bigger.
Building stronger foundations for voter education and civic engagement
Over two impactful days in Abuja on the 25th and 26th of March 2026, KDI convened stakeholders from (INEC) and Voter Education and Publicity (VEP) Heads of Department across the 36 states and FCT, came together to strengthen communication strategies, deepen youth engagement, and drive effective implementation of the Civic and Voter Education framework.
From strategic communication to actionable state-level workplans, this training marks a critical step toward more informed, active, and empowered citizens.

In the last FCT Area Council elections, voter turnout was significantly lower than the number of registered voters, a reminder that registration does not automatically translate to participation.
Local decisions about roads, sanitation, schools, and other community services are made through these elections.
Abuja, get ready to vote!
#FCTDecides2026
Today, we stand alongside citizens at the #OccupyNASS protest calling for stronger electoral reforms, especially the inclusion of mandatory real time electronic transmission of election results in the Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
We call on the National Assembly to ensure the Electoral Act Amendment Bill includes clear, enforceable provisions for result transmission and strengthens democratic integrity.
The citizens are watching.
