Jos Massacre: Unmasking Foreign Influence in Nigeria

On Palm Sunday, 29 March 2026, terrorists attacked the Gari Ya Waye community of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria, killing at least 30 civilians that the Tinubu-led regime failed to protect.

Following the attack, many Nigerians, who have long been victims of US-backed terrorism, have, out of frustration and neglect by Abuja, begun cosying up to foreign actors like “Alex Barbir”, who poses as a US missionary alongside his compliant local partner Ezekiel Dachomo.

The Lagos State House of Assembly has called on Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to direct the Commissioner for Information and Strategy to intensify public enlightenment and sensitisation on the ongoing demolition exercises in parts of the state.

This resolution followed a motion moved by Hon. Stephen Ogundipe during plenary, presided over by the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Lawmakers emphasised that clearer, consistent communication is critical to addressing misinformation surrounding the demolitions and ensuring that residents fully understand the legal basis, intent, and long-term benefits of the exercise.

The House also urged residents to always conduct themselves peacefully while expressing grievances, particularly during protests at the Assembly complex, warning against the danger of allowing individuals with selfish or ulterior motives to hijack genuine protests and escalate them into actions capable of breaching public order.

In a related resolution, members agreed that a formal letter of commendation be sent to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Olohundare Jimoh, in recognition of his professionalism and effective handling of security situations arising from recent protests.

Contributing to the debate, Hon. Aro Moshood described the misrepresentation of the demolition exercises as unfortunate, stressing that the actions of the state government were lawful and long overdue, having previously been delayed out of compassion and leniency.

Hon. Kehinde Joseph noted that prolonged delays in enforcement had created opportunities for individuals posing as human rights activists to exploit the situation for personal gain, and therefore called for a comprehensive review of the issues surrounding the demolitions.

Also speaking, Hon. Abiodun Tobun lamented that genuine protesters had been misled by persons with selfish intentions, leading to hijacked protests and avoidable damage to the image of the state.

In his contribution, Hon. Jubril Abdul-Kareem appealed to the state government to scale up investment in affordable housing for the less privileged, noting that proactive and inclusive housing policies would help prevent similar challenges in the future.

The House reaffirmed its commitment to peace, lawful governance, public order, and policies that balance development with compassion for residents.

Lagos Assembly Suspends Makoko Demolition
Following protests by residents and advocacy groups, the Lagos State House of Assembly has ordered an immediate suspension of ongoing demolitions in Makoko.
Rising from a meeting between lawmakers and representatives of the Makoko community at the Assembly Complex in Alausa, Ikeja, on Tuesday, the Majority Leader of the House, Noheem Adams, issued a directive to halt the demolitions.

“On behalf of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, and honourable members of this House, we are taking this matter seriously. All ongoing demolitions should be stopped,” Hon. Adams said.
He added that the Assembly would work with relevant ministries and agencies to review issues surrounding the demolitions and ensure all stakeholders are properly engaged.

He called for transparency by demanding the full list of taskforce members and the criteria used for engagement, adding, “We want to see the list of the taskforce that was constituted because we want the residents to be duly involved and to be carried along. So we want to have the schedule of those task forces and the criteria for those that we are inviting.”

Hon. Adams assured residents of the affected communities that, “As your representatives, we are giving you all assurances that they will stop demolitions henceforth and there will be compensations for all those whose properties have been demolished.”

Similarly, Hon. Stephen Ogundipe, member of the ad-hoc committee, said there is a need for clear communication, adding that residents targeted for relocation or redevelopment must be informed of the government’s plans in advance.
Babatunde Olajide, Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos on E-GIS and Urban Renewal, confirmed that $2 million had been earmarked since 2021 to transform Makoko into a modern, internationally compliant water city.
He said enumeration of affected properties is underway and reiterated the administration’s commitment to handling the situation with a human face, prioritizing resident safety and fair compensation.
